Disconnect the negative battery cable (very important!) then raise the car up as high as possible and support it on safety jack stands. The starter is located in the front of the engine at the point where the engine and transmission are bolted together, remove the starter cable and all other wiring, take a picture or write down where all the wires go by color and terminal markings for new starter install, remove the two (2) bolts holding the starter into the bell housing and then drop starter out and down. About a 1 hour job.

How do I replace the starter in my 2006 ford freestyle

I know this is kinda lame, but did you checked a battery? Are you 100% sure that battery has enough juice to crank your engine? Remember voltage on battery is not everything.

I have a 2006 ford freestyle and it starts up then shuts back off

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Abs light on after replacing hub bearing

Sounds like the ABS sensor has failed, or is unplugged. If someone did the work for you, take it back. Otherwise check the sensor on the right front. Replace as necessary. Also ask the Q at MyFordFreestyle.com
