There is a safety switch somewhere in the clutch pedal/linkage that must be closed before the engine starting circuit is activated. It seems your switch is bad. They're pretty cheap - less than $10 - and probably is mounted right behind or above the clutch pedal. See a picture at the link. More Information for ACDELCO D2214A

2004 chevy cavalier not starting after changing battery

When taking battery cables loose, I try to use memory saver. Hoping there won't be any problems on start-up? Are you saying the starter motor cranks good, but, won't start? If so, have helper crank it, while you check for spark at the spark plugs--check proper fuel pressure--check fuel injector pulse. If the starter motor won't even crank, then have to check voltage and ground for the starter motor. Any starter testing, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and functional parking brake is set.

Why doesn't it crank or start?

Check battery connections and voltage. fuel pump only runs for a few seconds to start and runs again while cranking.

If your engine dosen`t even crank you have to first make sure the battery is fully charged. If so it sounds like it is your starter. When your starter goes bad your engine wont crank you get nothing when you turn the key.Try to start there.

Cranks but wont start with no spark

Check your fuel pump. It may have died. One way to check is to see if you smell gas at the tail pipe after trying to start it. If you don't, that is a good indicator that the fuel pump ma have died or your fuel filter is clogged.

Hi there we have a 2001 Z22 cavalier and the fuel pump kicks on but when you go to start it all you here is a loud whining sound and it won`t start and when it was running at times it would lose its power...

when you say it wont start does the engine crank (spin over and over) but not start? if this is the case then the most common thing that come to mind with the fact that you said it would loose power and die then i would have the crank sensor tested, but this problem only happens every so often so the crank sensor may test good , i would try and replace it and the next common thing is the control module. ive had a few of these with the same problem and they needed the crank sensor and the ignition module replaced, i cant say yours is the same but you have to start somwhere, the tech ,has he scanned the computer to see if there are any codes? and last let me know if this car is spinning trying to start or does it do nothing when you try to start it but the whinning noise, this is important to know, good day.

My car will not start. it is not the battery, it

turn the key on( DONT CRANK IT) and listen near the fuel tank for a humming noise, it sould last about 3-5 sec, you are listinging for the fuel pump. If nothing is heard have your fuel pressue checked, chances are the electric fuel pump in the gas tank has failed.
