P1780
Torque Reduction Malfunction

You will need a shop to look into this as a VW factory scanner is needed to continue diagnostics.

SOURCE: 2000 VW New Beetle wheels locked up

The most likely problem is a faulty master cylinder or if your ABS light came on, a wheel speed sensor problem . Did you do any work on the brakes recenntly? if so check front sensors. If brakes are old the caliper pins could be worn and binding....this really should be checked by a pro with VAG Com scan tool.

Is your check engine light on? Check the throttle body or maybe the accelerator pedal is bad.

2000 vw beetle 01m auto trans, car was fine, trans was fine, pulled out excelerated, car sounded like it went into neutral, wont move in any gear. P1680 code. Help

Has to do with the throttle position sensor or pedal position sensor. Needs to be on a scanner. Just to see which it not working. Could also be a limp mode code. since the transmission quit pulling. I suggest you get it to a transmission shop. Most shops won't/cant diagnose transmission. They will try though.. Just costs you more.

Adding or changing transmission fluid for a 2000 VW Beetle. Can I do that or do I need to take it to a VW shop ?

Unless you have a VAG 1552 scan tool then yes and you wouldn't be asking this question. It measures the transmission's internal fluid temperature (expansion fo fluid due to heat) which determines the level of the fluid. Keep in mind this will be a good time to replace the transmission filter which is available as a part and not a kit. The pan gasket, an O-ring, the filler plug and it's security seal, I wish it was sold as kit. Don't forget the VW transmission fluid for the 01M auto gearbox part no. G 052 162 A2. I've used this parts and I know what I have and it works.

This needs a rating, thank you and good luck.

How to change spark plugs for 2000 vw beetle

With the intake where it is this can be verry hard. You may have to pull the intake manifole to get it done. I can pull 1,3,4 but 2 is a problem. Check with a good auto parts store many times they have people with mechanical skills and loaner tools.

Transmission is slipping on take off it does fine once it gets to 2nd and on up could it be it needs to be reset or do I need a new transmission

I think it's done for. How many miles do you have on the car?? This is the 4sp auto right ?? The average life of this trans, the 01M is around 140,000- 160,000 mi. Some more, some much less. The only thing you can do-

1st check to make sure floormat isn't in the way of the accelereator pedal travel

Put key in ign.

Turn to on position BUT DON'T START IT

Right after you turn the key press and hold the accelerator right to the floor and hold for 7 seconds.

Release pedal and turn off key.

This has reset the fuzzy logic of the trans. No promise this can make it better though, and no promise that it won't make it worse. The first 10 miles or so might be a bit rough because the trans is trying to re-learn it's job again.

The 01M is very expensive. $4000-4500 average to replace.

How important is it to get a transmission flush on a VW Jetta 2006? I have 81K on it.

Are we talking about an auto?? if so, i believe you have a sealed transmission. My 02' is sealed- and the STEALership will not do a service on it. THREE different stealers claim it's sealed for a reason and back when they did service them they said there issues popped up soon after, and discontinued the practice. Some VW nuts claim to have refined the procedure and swear you have to flush em' but I have 165,000+ of driving like a Jersey @sshole without ever going into the trans. ...and i also find a good deal autos (at least the 01M auto) self destruct in a way that wouldn't have been affected by fluid

'99 Beetle cruise control surge and speedometer has slight flutter.Occasionally speedometer drops to zero mph and cruise will then stop working. The "surge" is so bad that you can not drive with cruise on....

I would take a blind guess and sat the speedo sensor has an issue. 99' beetle should have an 01M auto, and the speed sensor is also the dipstick for the final differental drive. search around this area of the trans for the cable and snoop around. loose at the trans ? bad connection somewhere??

Vw automatic trans won't shift

The 01M and 09A automatic transmissions do not have a dipstick and procedure requires measuring and maintaining a specified ATF temperature (which is neither cold or hot, but in between) during the ATF level checking. Special Volkswagen tools are required for this operation and it is therefore recommended that ATF level checking on 01M/09A transmissions be left to an authorized VW dealer.
