This job is so big, and has so many steps to it, I should recommend you visit your local library or car parts store.
Either place should have a soft cover book that will walk you through the process.
At the library, you should be able to check out a book; and at the car parts store, you could buy a book to do the job.
Some of the manuals may be under the heading of "Motor's", "Haynes", or "Chilton's".
(Be sure you look at the book before you buy it to be sure that particular job is explained.)
There are others.
If you will check with several auto body shops in your area, you may find out you do not need to remove the dash to remove the heater core.
God bless your efforts.

Where is the heater core on a pontiac aztek and how do i get to it myself

It is located on the passenger side behind the dash. They are very difficult to get to and change. If it is not leaking in the floorboard of the passenger side, then it is probably not the heater core. I am guessing that the heater is not working. If this is the case. Then check the heater control valve.

Wet floor boards on both driver and passenger sides.

check the seals on the doors, also check heater core coil which is under the dash, if your smelling a sweet smell it could be antifreeze leaking out of the heater core

2001 Aztek blowing cold air (strong) on left side of the car.

This is a blend door problem, this door diverts air either throgh the heater core or the AC accumulator core, it either provides hot, cold or a mixture or blend, this door is deep in the dash and in most cases the dash must be removed to service the little electric motor that operated the door.
