The park interlock cable is part of the brake/shift lever interlock system. Correct cable adjustment is important to proper interlock operation. The gear shift and park lock cables must both be correctly adjusted in order to shift out of PARK.

ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

1. Remove floor console as necessary for access to the park lock cable.

2. Shift the transmission into the PARK position.

3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Be sure ignition key cylinder is in the LOCK position. Cable will not adjust correctly in any other position.
NOTE: If the key will not turn to the LOCK position, pull up on the cable lock button and manually move the cable in and out until the key can be turned to the LOCK position.

4. Pull cable lock button up to release cable, if necessary.

5. Remove and discard the cable adjuster lock pin, if a new cable is being installed.

6. Ensure that the cable is free to self-adjust by pushing cable rearward and releasing.

7. Push lock button down until it snaps in place. The lock should be 1-2mm below the surface of the cylindrical portion of the cable

The linkage are hooked up but the car still want go into park,a 2000 Taurus


Do you have floor console shifter ?
Shift Interlock System A brake/shifter interlock system consists of the following:
  • ignition switch (11572)
  • brake pedal stoplight switch (13480)
  • brake shift interlock module
  • brake shift interlock solenoid assembly (attached to key interlock assembly)
  • necessary wiring
On floor-shift vehicles, the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719):
  • locks the floor shift transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  • requires the floor shift transaxle range selector lever to be in the PARK position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

Shift lever hard to release when cold


I am assuming you have a floor/console shift and not a column shift. Most often this is caused by spilled coffee or soda pop in the console. Wash the end of the shift interlock cable with warm soapy water (warmer the better).

You have a INTERLOCK with the BRAKE PEDAL. If the Interlock is working properly

Your Cable is jammed and needs to be replaced.

You can attempt to manually move the Cable and see what happens..

Need more details.
Dodge Charger RT & SRT have weak plastic shifter assemblies. The brake interlock works first to let you move the shifter to the right. Then the shift interlock needs to release to let you shift down the gate. I can tell you how to get by until you can replace the assembly if you give more information than just a title.

Check under the dash at your Brake pedal interlock switch. It is timed with the gearshift Interlock and Ignition switch. This switch usually gets hit by feet and dislodged or broken. When you shift out of Park, the switch is toggling to a broken piece and shorting out.

The brake interlock switch is at the top half of the pedal lever. The other part of the Interlock uses a rod or cable in the steering column Ignition switch and mates with the shifting mechanism.

Check the actuator cable that activates the front axle disconnect. It is bolted to the inner fender and the cable runs down to the axle. If you apply vacuum it should pull in and shift the interlock. To see if it is working, jack up the right front so the tire clears. The tire should rotate pretty free. Now engage the interlock. The tire should become harder to turn and the front drive shaft should turn. Now engage the 4X4 (with the trans in park) and see if you can still turn the tire. You shouldn't be able to turn it with the interlock activated.

2006 dodge charger is stuck in park?


Brake lights working, then the Shifter interlock soleniod is stuck or burt out, also the release for the interlock is on right side of console, remove plug, and depress the pin, the cable can off the release to, or bamaged interlock. The interlock recieves 12 volts from brake circuit, can be tested at the soleniod. GOOD LUCK. RDJRP

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Removal
  1. stf~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG MODULE DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG MODULE SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
    Remove the steering wheel (3600). Refer to the procedure in this section.
  1. Remove the multi-function switch (13K359). Refer to Section 11-05 for the removal procedure.
  1. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  1. Remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable mounting bracket bolt and position the ignition/shifter interlock cable mounting bracket and the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719) aside.




  1. Remove the four steering column upper mounting bracket bolts and lower the steering column (3C529).
  1. Use a hammer and chisel to make a groove in the head of each of the two ignition switch lock cylinder bracket bolts.

  1. Remove the two ignition switch lock cylinder bracket bolts with a screwdriver and discard the bolts.




  1. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder and the ignition switch lock cylinder bracket.
Installation
  1. Position the ignition switch lock cylinder and bracket and install two new bolts, tightening them only enough to hold the ignition switch lock cylinder in position.
  1. With the key in the ignition, verify the operation of the ignition switch lock cylinder. If necessary, reposition the ignition switch lock cylinder until it operates properly.
  1. Tighten the ignition switch lock cylinder bracket bolts until the bolt heads break off.
  1. Position the steering column and install the four steering column upper mounting bracket bolts. Tighten the steering column upper mounting bracket bolts to 9-14 Nm (80-124 lb-in).
  1. On vehicles equipped with tilt column, remove the upper mounting bracket retaining pin.
  1. Position the ignition/shifter interlock cable mounting bracket and install the bolt. Tighten the ignition/shifter interlock cable mounting bracket bolt to 4-6 Nm (35-53 lb-in).
  1. Connect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  1. Install the multi-function switch. Refer to Section 11-05 for the installation procedure.
  1. Install the steering wheel. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  1. Inspect the shift interlock system. Refer to Section 07-05 for the procedure.
