If your sure it's not the cover or rear main. That only leaves the head and or head gasket(not likely). I'm rebuilding an H3 3.5 now. I would guess it is a valve cover if the leak is on the drivers side. Because you can not see the cover on that side because of the air plenum. The plenum is one piece all the way down that side. The cover could be leaking kind of close to the front, but flows back over the plenum side mount to the back. The only other thing that may back there would be the crank sensor. That would be on the drivers side also.

SOURCE: 97 neon oil leak

Solution: Maybe.

Rear main seal is probably the problem.

My 1997 Dodge Neon has this same problem. My father-in-law (who used to be a mechanic) checked the car for me and found the rear main seal needs replacing.

1995 3.0 ranger leaking oil at back of eng left hand side below valve covers . oil can be seen tracking down l side of eng thru wheel well

the oil pressure sender unit will be in that area so check that it has not failed or leaking from around the thread
another place of leakage is the rear edge of the rocker cover where the gasket has failed or not been fitted properly or loose screws for the cover

Ihave a 2000 gmc sierra that has a oil leak down

check for 2 steel cooling lines going to the radiator for leaks at the transmission....but more than likely the oil is coming from the valve covers...if you fix it use the rubber gaskets. if it doesn't leak much just hose the tranny once in a while for it is a rough and it is expensive undertaking at a garage.....it pro is not the rear main seal-which is also not a picnic....keep a check on you eng oil level.....luck to you

Oil leak on top eng it not vale covers it leaking under intake

Oil leak can be attributed to several factors.
1. Gasket failure.
2. Uncontrolled Crank case pressure Failure.

RECOMENDATION:
Tighten both the valve cover and oil pan bolts.
Replace the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve and vacuum line.,

INFO: PCV
This is a valve causes a negative vacuum on the engine while its running, As to say if it had a leak in a valve cover it should not be leaking while its running, only when the engine it turned off.

Hope this tip guides you in the correct direction to solve this problem.

Oil leak

If by head covers you mean valve covers this is an easy fix just install a new set of valve cover gaskets, as this is a fairly common problem ( valve cover gaskets ). Just unbolt the valve covers and remove them then scrape off the old gasket and install the new ones and bolt the covers back on. This is a pretty easy job and the gaskets are less than $ 25.00. If it is the oil pan gasket you will needto drain the oil and unbolt the oil pan and remove it then clean off the old gasket and install the new one.
