SOURCE: crank sensor problems

try having the PCM checked at a dealership or repair service shop but before you do this have the timing checked and also check for vacuum leaks

SOURCE: miss fire only when cold and under load. no fault

On 2.5L and 3.0L X-Types in the vin range C00294 to C91735 there was software issue on the engine ECU which caused misfires/hesitation when cold. this could be repaired by re-configuring the ECU with a software download. There was a Jaguar technical bulletin for this issue, the bulletin number was A303-05.

On the diagnostic plug under the bonnet you can bridge out TE1 and E1 and read the fault code on the cluster if it gives any. Is it a 1993 to 1997 model.

Rev counter bouncing when car is in idle

this is indicative of faulty crank sensor as that where the rev's are counted from , have the OBD codes read , Renaults are notorious for this and will need the updated wiring loom as well as the sensor to do the job properly

the crank sensor is favorite they are unreliable that explaines why the trans not getting engine speed signal unless its a manual box and that code will allways be logged advise start by checking for water ingress in engine control module located lower rh a post then change crankshaft position sensor or better still try and borrow one from a good running car

Has anyone checked the Crank position sensor or knock sensor? If the Crank position sensor isn't reporting the correct position of the crank when it turns the spark plugs are firing at the wrong time. This could be because of a worn timing belt or faulty timing belt tension arm. Have the sensors checked and if they are good your left with replacing your timing belt.

Td5 seems to be miss firing or firing on four

Probably more likely to be oil in the injector loom. About £35 for the part and an hour or so to replace.
Easy way to check, get the ECU out from under the bonnet by the jack, unplug IIRC the red plug and see if there's oil oozing there. If there is, get some contact cleaner and clean that up, but odds are the upper loom has a failed o-ring. This can be replaced then cleaning the lower loom at the ecu a couple of times a week can clear the rest out negating the need for a engine loom replacement.
