I don't. But I do remove the throttle body for easy access. You can still get the bolts out with out removing the cover. Just a major pain.

Where is the cross over exhaust pipe on a 2005 Buick rendezvous

It is the exhaust pipe that goes from the front to the back of the engine above the bellhousing. The thermostat should be where the top radiator hose connects to the engine.

How to replace thermostat

if it is the v-6 engine the thermostat is under the throttle body area. the cross over pipe for the exhaust is there also. it is tight but you can do it if the engine is cold. you will have to use a wrench or 1/4 in socket set to get into the area.

NOTE Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  3. Install the thermostat housing bolts and tighten them to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4. Install the radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
  5. Install the crossover exhaust pipe.
  6. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly.
  7. Fill the cooling system.

1 Answer

Where is the thermostat

The thermostat is located at the engine end of the upper radiator hose, behind the thermostat cover. I find it easier to access the cover after removing the air intake hose as it is located between the exhaust cross over pipe and lower intake and under the throttle body.

Where is the thermostat on a 2003 rendez-vous

If you have the 3400 engine it is on the left [drivers] end of the engine and is between the end of the intake manifold and the exhaust cross-over pipe. Just follow the radiator hose from the radiator to the engine on that side and you'll find the housing at the engine end of the hose. I'ts a tough one to get out as the exhaust pipe and throttle body are in the way but it will come out. It's also very easy for the thermostat to get out of place when trying to get the housing, thermostat, and bolts back in that tight spot so you have to keep a close watch on everything to be sure it all gets put back together properly so it won't leak. Hope this helps!
