Question about Ford Econoline
The shift solenoids are inside the transmission, usually mounted to the valve body. If your van will not shift all the way up into drive, it's in the 'limp in' mode. There is a problem with the transmission, and the controller is only letting it use second range to limit further damage, but to allow you to move it off the road and to a safe area. Get it diagnosed and serviced before it is completely ruined.
