Wont shift out of park, brake lights dont work

your brake switch is broken, its on the top of brake peddle. It wont shift from park because you need to press brake to shift from park and with the switch not working it doesn't know your pressing the brake. check connection on switch if its fine you need to replace.

TRANSMISSION CABLE

On my '96 Olds 98, brake transaxle shift interlock is simply a pain in the ***. Solution: always press foot brake AND parking brake hard and hold while shifting into park and shutting down engine. Try not to park "downhill." Read owners manual;"shifting out of park." This even calls for opening and shutting the door! If you can't start in park, try neutral. If all else fails, unhook red battery cable for a minute. Re-attach and restart car, which should re-set computer to recognize your key, which has a computer chip embedded in it. Worst option EVER invented!

Why wont my 2008 dodge avenger shift from park?

I assume you are pressing firmly on the brake pedal. If so, it is most likely the brake safety switch, not detecting that you are.
Contact your dealer about the override for this, (usually there is a button somewhere), if that fixes it, you need to get it replaced.
All new cars require that you press the brake to be able to shift out of park; this prevents the so-called "sudden acceleration" problem, when you put your foot on the accelerator instead of the brake, shift into drive, and then no matter how hard you press on the accelerator (which you *think* is the brake), the car will not stop, in fact it "races out of control".

But occasionally this switch goes bad and has to be replaced.

Car wont accelerate 2000 mitsubishi

Do a compression check. If the pressure, psi, in all the cylinders is within 10 psi of each other you have a blown head gasket or cracked block. If it is good then you need to check you breaks to make sure that one of them has not locked up. this can sometimes happen with the emergency brake. If it idles good and in park you can run it up to 2500 or 3000 rpm then you most likely have a locked wheel, brake or transmission problem.

Vibrations in truck when ideling and when accelerating

That might be a problem with motor mounts. Raise the hood, start truck and while holding the brake put in gear and slowly press accelerator. A bad motor mount will allow the engine to twist in place. Don't forget to check the transmission mounts also.
