How to Change Thermostat in Avanti Studebaker car?

1) First buy a new thermostat for you car year and model.
2) Then as per the procedure. Remove the radiator cap. Be careful that there will be pressure in the radiator. So just let the pressure release first before removing the cap completely.
3) The thermostat is connected to the black hose coming from radiator.
4) On the top of the engine there will be thermostat cover. The cover is fitted by two bolts on each side.
5) Then remove the hose connected to radio with the help of a pier.
6) The other end of the hose is connected at thermostat cover. Carefully remove the other end of the hose. A bit of coolant will flow from the hose while removing the hose.
7) Remove the screws holding the thermostat cover. Lift the cover after the screws are takes out. Then take the thermostat seated under the cover.
8) Remove the old gasket out from the thermostat with the help of knife.
9) Before removing the old thermostat carefully notice the position of old thermostat. In the same way place the new thermostat with the spring assembly in the down side of the engine.
10) Refit all the parts removed while removing the old thermostat properly.
11)After every thing is fitted proper as it was before, then check the coolant level if its low get it refilled till the required level.
This will help. Thanks.

IF you are talking about the lever switch ,, many have a PLASTIC switch piece in the steering wheel , which have so called hooks on them..... that when you pull the lever , it engages into that hook and turning wheel / cornering or just moving the lever back to it's neutral postiion turns it off........ thus needing to remove the steering wheel to replace / fix it .
1st check with your local parts house to see if there is this piece in your year / make / model.

OUR 1957 STUDEBAKER OVERHEATS. IT OVER HEATS

Are u sure it is overheating--the headlites should have nothing to do with the temp. Check ur temp sending unit--Did u change the themostat??--If it is overheating that is probably ur problem.

You may have already found this site:

http://theavanti.com/parts.htm

But if not, it seems a good place to start.

I empathize with your plight; I have a Bertone '87 X1/9, my favorite car of all time but have been fortunate in finding a low-mileage parts car in case I need any.
I grew up in original Avanti-land; South Bend, IN.

Need to have the dash repaired for my 63 avanti. I live in Hawaii

Dash repair. Do let me know how serious it is. Some of it can be repaired, depending if the vinyl has some elasticity remaining or a replacement dash pad may be needed, or simply replace the entire dash. There are options. Roland-Avanti2696@rogers.com
