Type p0171

It is a generic OBD2 power train Code. The same solution could be applied to all other vehicles as well.
Error Code: P0171
Description:
Fuel Trim (FT), System too Lean, Bank 1
Possible Causes:
- Fuel pump pressure too high or regulating valve stuck closed.
- Intake/ exhaust leak.
- Secondary air injection (AIR) system.
- Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor.
- Mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
- Fuel pressure/pump.
- Fuel Injector(s).
- Evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve.
- Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
Solutions:
-Usually, simply cleaning the Mass air flow (MAF) sensor helps solve the problem.
- It is best to take MAF off and spray it with electronics cleaner or high flash point solvent.
- Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary.
- Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure.

The high temp gauge will max out and then back to normal. Also the heat will not work then kick in all of a sudden.

Let me guess...When the temp gauge goes hot, the heater goes cold, and vice versa? Check your coolant level first in the radiator (when the engine is COLD) and also in the overflow reservoir. ONLY use a 50/50 mix of coolant and water, using the same COLOR coolant that is already in the radiator (if it's green, buy green, if it's orange/red, buy orange/red). Next thing to have checked/replaced is the thermostat which is inside the cooling system of the engine. Finally, and the most expensive, have the water pump checked/replaced.

I would put my money on low coolant level in the radiator. As the engine heats up, the coolant will "surge" through the system as the water pump tries to **** air through the system due to low coolant level. If the coolant isn't flowing, the heat can't escape the engine block and it starts to overheat.

1998 Cadillac Deville overheating . Engine overheats to 245 + degrees when running 50 mph or more with some torque load.( ie.hills and 4 passengers) New thermostat and coolant reserve pressure valve.were...

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage. The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

Still want to shoot into a thermal runaway.

First of try to understand exactly what part you mention exactly how they work or function
  1. please place a new low speed relay as it try to make out thermal heating cool at it's initial 1st stage level of heating so that the temperature remain maintain if thus it reaches the second level of heating then the high speed relay act at that time & the speed of radiator fan increase to get thermal heating in control.
  2. the thermostat regulate the heating temperature of the engine it senses the temperature & signal to the relay the relay then react according to the temperature level of engine at low heating it operate the low speed relay & high temperature it signal to high speed relay so the engine temperature does not rise to extended level of heating or overheating.
  3. see for thermostat valve is failure if that so replace it new sometime most of the mechanic change it or cancel it so that the temperature does not rise as this thermostat help engine maintain it's ideal temperature which is required by the engine for regular or good working even at extreme climatic condition.
  4. Do check for every tensioner or Ideal Bearing as far consider on the No. of miles or Km the vehicle has run according to us the tensioner or ideal bearing are suppose to be replace at an interval of 30000 to 35000 Km. but this replacement include both Engine timing belt & tensioner & ideal tensioner bearing.
  5. A water pump flow depend on the tension of the drive belt some vehicle come with water pump which drive on inner timing belt tension & some on the fan belt or external tension belt of engine.
for further more FAQ do send in or place your problem we will sort it out till then have a safe drive & happy motoring from siddhanth.....!

Car keeps dying

Trouble Code 33 and 34 are the MAF/MAP Sensor Circuit. It sounds like you've replaced that sensor already. Did you also have the code 34 before putting in the new sensor?
Or did this code start after it's replacement? Any other codes appearing?

Troubleshooting it would depend if it has the Speed Density Update. The dealer should be able to provide that info.

Here's your fault code list:

13 oxygen sensor circuit 14 coolant temp sensor circuit (high temp) 15 coolant temp sensor circuit (low temp) 21 throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit (high signal) 22 throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit (low signal) 23 manifold air temp (MAT) circuit (low temp) 24 vehicle speed sensor (VSS) circuit 25 manifold air temp (MAT) circuit (high signal) 31 wastegate solenoid electrical circuit 32 exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) circuit 33 mass air flow (MAF) circuit (gm/sec high) 34 mass air flow (MAF) circuit (gm/sec low) 41 cam sensor circuit 42 C3I EST or bypass circuit failure 43 electronic spark control (ESC) circuit 44 oxygen sensor circuit (lean exhaust) 45 oxygen sensor circuit (rich exhaust) 51 PROM error 52 calpak error 55 ECM error
