2002ford explorer, does it take limited slip oil along with specified oil?


lift up rear both wheel and try spinning one rear wheel and observe rotation of the opposite wheel. if turning the same direction, you may add limited slip oil. if not, use regular gear oil. GL5

The motor is not grounded through the frame... Direction of rotation is controlled by apply B+ to one lead and ground to the other.

Why do Both my back wheels turn in opposite directions


Hi Anthony. This is a reaction called "Torque" Commonly, most rear wheeled vehicles have what is called "Limited-Slip Differential" What happens is, as the vehicle makes a turn, the inside rear wheel rotates slightly slower than the rear wheel on the outside of the turn. This ensures even power distribution to the rear wheels from the transmission. If you have a "Positive Traction" (Posi) rear wheel drive, then when you accelerate, both wheels turn at the exact same rotational time. The consequence of this is, when you turn, you will hear a rear tire squeal on the pavement. There is also the "Semi-Posi" that acts like an Limited-Slip, until you apply power. Then the rear wheels turn at the same rotation, but only under power. To experience what it would be like if all wheels turned the same direction at the same time, find someone with a 4 wheel drive (4x4) with manual hubs, and on pavement put it in 4 low and try to turn. 2 of the tires will squeal on the pavement, and you will notice it will slow you down very quickly during a turn. I hope this gives you the info you wanted. ^^

I have a 97 vzj95 prado 3.4lt v6 Recently the front diff seized and I've replaced it but now on turns while accelerating I'm hearing a clunk from the rear diff... Is this a wind up issue? Thanks


Yes it is a wind up of the axles and not the drive shafts. Your car has a limited slip diff and it is locking up.
When you are accelerating the diff locks up and your wheels are rotating at different rates while turning. This causes the axles to twist until the pressure causes the Limited Slip Diff to slip.
My guess would be that someone has changed the diff oil with non Limited Slip Diff oil.

Why does my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo rear tires lock up when driving or turning


If both tires stop, the car cant move, anyway! If you turn to one side and the inner wheel seams as it stops, maybe the you need to replace the clutch's in the read differential. The rear axle has two clutch packages that look the rear axle if one wheel rotates faster then the other side. It's also known as a limited slip differential, but on a JGC the axle has this clutch packs that avoid any slip in the diff. If these packs are worn out you need to replace them.
If it happens, try to roll back some feet and drive straight forward. If both wheels are rotating normal, replace this clutch's. If that don't work, remove the wheels, open the brake drums and look for broken brake shoes, loose springs or worn out bearings. Lift your car and try to rotated each wheel by hand and feel if there are anything that blocks turning. After half a turn, the clutch in the diff. will close, so the other side need to turn the opposite direction and you will find it harder to rotate the wheel. If it blocks complete... replace the clutch. Make sure that you fill the diff with the right amount oil and a special additive called "friction modifier". Don't forget this modifier, because your new clutch will be burned in minutes.

Crankshaft pulley on my 1999 snfire is hard to rotate by hand


This would be normal for an engine with compression. If it does this with a starter, then the compression may be too much for the starter.

Also if the timing were overadvanced, it would bind against the compression.

How to check rear diff when turning outside rear tire feels like going over rumble strips but not all the time checked tires and rotated maybe wheel bearing? truck has limited slip rear


sound like your limited slip clutch in the differental is worn, normally you shouldn't be able without alot of force to turn one of the tires.... inspect the clutches or replace the fluid and retest....simple way to check the rear bearings is to remove the axle and spin the wheel and listen....GL

Rubbing/grabbing sensation in steering at start-up


stop turing the wheels when the engine isnt running.... sounds like you have air lock in the power steering system.... easily prevented by not turing the wheels with enigne off
