SOURCE: Unusual ping noise

I have heard the same thing in my '07 Altima 2.5 S. I asked a mechanic @ the local dealer, and he said he doesn't know what it is and couldn't get the car to make the noise when he drove it.

SOURCE: car noise: loud grinding/pinging. Louder

Could be anything from a bad knock sensor to an internal engine problem. Try a stethoscope test if you can duplicate this racket while in park.....accordianman

SOURCE: Driveshaft Lubrication Points 1996 Subaru Legacy

There are no greases zerks or lube points on that model .You actually aren't moving anything while in this state. I have seen exhaust components cause this if there is any contact to chassis or rubber mounts missing. The engine vibration through the exhaust system can resonate noise.

SOURCE: Ford Taurus: rough idle in drive and reverse

it could be that the tick over is two slow in brive,,,
set it up to tickover at 850,,950 rpm (in drive)
or it could be a gear box fult like the drive plate has a crack in it,,,letting the torque converter slap about,,,
chech tick over first,,, bont adjust tick over in gear unless the brakes are held hard on,,,

Car stalls when foot off gas pedel does not hold idle

these trucks are equipped with an idle speed control motor. What you're describing sounds like that part has stopped working. The part is designed to maintain idle when gas pedal is released. Now if you hear an audible hissing noise under the hood, then theres a vacuum leak which can cause the same problem, but it sounds like the idle control motor. Good luck.

Still Rough Idle After Battery Disconnect

The first thing to do is not set up the idle speed, but to set the Idle mixture screw to lean best idle setting. First, turn in the mixture screw until the engine dies or runs worse, then back out the screw (recommend turning ¼ to ½ turn at a time). The engine should pick up speed and begin to smooth out.

The battery has nothing to do with the idle speed

Jeep 360 rattle sound at idle in park

it could be a wrist pin, and im not sure if those amc's had hydraulic lifters but sometimes with old lifters when the oil pressure is lower at an idle the lifters arnt filling up all the way so they develope a little valve lash, and when the rpms are raised the oil pressure raises and fills the lifters. you could try chasing the noise down with an automotive stethoscope.

Pinging sound only when acclerating. Doesn't do it when at idle or coasting.

if you have the recommended octane fuel in the vehicle the normal reason for pinging ls the timing is advanced too much.mark the distributor to housing position{so you can return it to how it was if the experiment doesnt solve it}then loosen the distributor retaining bolt and turn the dizzy about 4mm clockwise or anti clock{depends on model}lightly tighten bolt and road test.if pinging is worse turn the dizzy the other way.if pinging decreases just keep adjusting till it just dissappears.hope this helps.if it doesnt return the dizzy to original position and look for another problem.you wont hurt anything trying.

I want to adjust the idle on a 2003 ford f150

The engine Idle is adjusted by the PCM (power control module) If your having idle problem, cleaned the throttle body real good (just to make sure there wasn't a problem there) then do a "IAC relearn" by unhooking the battery, letting it sit for about 5 minutes, then hooked battery back up, let it idle for 3 mins, put in gear and held it there for 3 mins, and then neutral for 3 mins, then back into park. Go for a test drive and this should fix the problem.

When its warmed up, in park or in gear, RPMs are about 600-650 at warm idle. At cold its about 850 or so, Good luck and thank you for using Fixya

2001 Mazda Protege 1.6L automatic. Knocking pinging noise

Solution 1 would be to diagnose the problem of the low comp in 2& 3 and solve that issue. I would of started w the timing belt 1st. If that didn't solve it,ck head gasket, valves, rings. CK for oil & coolant mixing. Good Luck
