All negative wires are eventually grounded to the frame. Look for the black wire that has a bolt head on the end of it.

P0744 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dan Weller ASE Certified Master Technician Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. It is considered generic because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles (1996-newer), although specific repair steps may vary depending on the model. What does that mean? Modern vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions / transaxles use a torque converter between the engine and transmission to increase the engine torque output and drive the rear wheels. The engine and transmission are actually connected by a fluid coupling mechanism inside of the torque converter which is what multiplies the torque until the speeds equalize and create a "stall" speed where the difference in actual engine RPM and transmission input RPM is around 90% efficient. Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoids commanded by the Powertrain control module/Engine control module (PCM/ECM) or the Transmission control module (TCM) to direct hydraulic fluid and engage the torque converter clutch to create a solid coupling and increase efficiency. The transmission control module has detected a fault with the circuit that operates the torque converter clutch solenoid. Note: This code is similar to codes P0740, P0741, P0742 and P0743. There may be other diagnostic trouble codes associated with the transmission control module that can only be accessed by using an advanced scan tool. If any additional transmission related DTC's appear in addition to the P0744, an electrical failure is likely. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0744 trouble code may include: Intermittent Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated (a.k.a. Check Engine Light) Minimal decrease in fuel economy, this will not affect engine performance Potential Causes Causes of this DTC may include: Wiring harness to transmission damaged, loose connection, or intermittent open/short circuit Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid Transmission control module (TCM) Diagnostic Steps for P0744 DTC Wiring harness - Check transmission wiring harness for damage or loose connections. Use a factory wiring diagram to locate the appropriate power source and all connection points between circuits. The transmission may be powered by a fuse or relay, and triggered by the TCM. Disconnect the transmission harness at the transmission connector, power source and TCM. Check for a short to ground inside the transmission internal wiring harness by locating the appropriate + and - pins for the torque converter clutch solenoid. Using a digital volt ohm meter (DVOM) set to ohms scale, check for a short to ground in the circuit with the positive lead on either pin and the negative lead to a known good ground. If resistance is low, suspect a short to ground the internal harness or the TCC solenoid - removing the transmission oil pan may be necessary to further diagnose the TCC solenoid. Test the wiring between the TCM and the wiring harness connector at the transmission case using the DVOM set to ohms. Check for a possible short to ground by moving the negative lead on the DVOM to a known good ground, resistance should be very high or over limit (OL). Test the wiring for the control circuit between the TCM and the wiring harness connector at the transmission case using the DVOM set to volts scale - it may be necessary to remove the pin from each side of the harness connector to isolate it from the harness while it is still plugged into the TCM and transmission case. With the positive lead on either end of the wiring and the negative lead to a known good ground, check for the presence of battery voltage with the key on/engine off. If voltage is present, suspect a short to power and determine the source of the short circuit in the wire harness assembly. Hint: Wiggling the wire harness and connectors while testing may help locate an intermittent short to power or ground. Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid - Check the resistance in the TCC solenoid and internal transmission wiring at the transmission case after removing the transmission harness plug (if applicable, some makes/models use a TCM bolted directly to the transmission case). Some makes/models use a transmission wire harness with the TCC solenoid and internal harness as a single unit. The DVOM should be set to ohms scale with the positive lead and negative lead on the pins for the TCC power and control circuit. Resistance should be within manufacturers specifications, if it is very high or over limit (OL), remove the transmission oil pan to inspect the solenoid inside the transmission if possible. Check for voltage on the power side circuit of the TCC solenoid with the key on/engine off and harnesses plugged or at the wire harness connector at the TCM with the DVOM set to volts scale, positive lead on the control side of the solenoid and the negative to a known good ground with the vehicles key on/engine off, battery voltage should be present. Tap the solenoid and wiggle the wiring to determine if a short to power or ground exists. Transmission control module (TCM) - Since the torque converter clutch is only activated during certain driving conditions, it will be necessary to monitor the TCM with an advanced scan tool to determine if the TCM is commanding the TCC solenoid and what the actual feedback reading is at the TCM. The TCC solenoid is normally controlled by a duty cycle to engage a more comfortable torque converter cluch engagement To test if the TCM is actually sending the signal, a graphing multimeter set to duty cycle or a digital storage oscilloscope will be required as well. The positive lead is probed into the wiring harness plugged into the TCM and the negative lead to a known good ground. The duty cycle shold be the same as being commanded by the TCM in the advanced scan tool reading. If the cycle is intermittent on rough road conditions, it may be a wiring fault. Re-check connections and if all wiring / solenoid is OK or if road conditions do not coincide with the intermittent readings, the TCM may be at fault.

Where is the transaxle fuse to the left hand side of the steering taped to the wiring harness? This is where Mitchell On Demand says it is...BUT I CANNOT FIND IT AND EVEN THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT HELP ME!


transmission diode is located in the red wire to transmission wire harness that feed power to the tcc solenoid inside the transmission side pan where valve body located the inside pan wire harness is the harness where diode located when you remove side pan cover the top red feed wire at top harness where positive diode tied in the red wire circuit.if you referring to diode instead fuse that only thing i can think of.

Need to do oil change. can not find oil pan. where is it located



1. Remove the upper radiator hose. Remove the wiper module and support bracket.

  1. Disconnect and plug the compressor outlet hose at the compressor and remove the bolt retaining the hose assembly to the right coil bracket. Cap the compressor outlet.
  2. Remove the engine harness connector from the retaining bracket on the brake vacuum booster and detach the connector and transmission harness connector.
  3. Disconnect the throttle valve cable from the throttle body and disconnect the heater outlet hose.
  4. Remove the nut retaining the ground strap to the right cylinder head. Remove the upper stud and loosen the lower bolt retaining the heater outlet hose to the right cylinder head and position out of the way.
  5. Remove the blower motor resistor. Remove the bolt retaining the right engine mount to the lower engine bracket.
  6. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the EGR valve and tube. Remove the 2 bolts retaining the EGR valve to the intake manifold.
  7. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain the crankcase and remove the engine mount through bolts.
  8. Remove the EGR tube line nut from the right exhaust manifold and remove the EGR valve and tube assembly.
  9. Disconnect the exhaust from the exhaust manifolds. Lower the exhaust system and support it with wire from the crossmember.
  10. Position a jack and a block of wood under the oil pan, rearward of the oil drain hole. Raise the engine approximately 4 in. and insert 2 wood blocks approximately 2 1 / 2 in. thick under each engine mount. Lower the engine onto the wood blocks and remove the jack.
  11. Remove the 16 bolts retaining the oil pan to the engine block and remove the oil pan.

It may be necessary to loosen, but not remove, the 2 nuts on the rear transmission mount and with a jack, raise the transmission extension housing slightly to remove the pan.
  1. If necessary, remove the 2 bolts retaining the oil pickup tube to the oil pump and remove the bolt retaining the pickup tube to the main bearing stud spacer. Remove the pickup tube.

What is involved with replacing the oil pan on 1998 GMC Sierra?


  • Step 1 Raise the truck using the proper equipment. Use a ramp or a jack and jack stands to support the vehicle securely by following all directions for use provided by this equipment's manufacturer.
  • Step 2 Drain all oil from the Silverado by placing an oil drip pan under the vehicle's engine block, directly under the oil drain plug. The drain plug is located on the oil pan, between the vehicle's tires underneath the vehicle. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the plug allowing the oil to drain into the pain below.
  • Step 3 Notice the various items attached to the oil pan or in the way of the oil pan dropping. For the oil pan to drop, remove the negative battery cable, front differential (only for four-wheel drive vehicles) and the under body shield by using a wrench or socket set.
  • Step 4 Remove the oil pan shield by loosening the four bolts holding it in place along the edges of the shield. Then, remove the cross brace, oil filter, the transmission to oil pan bolts and the oil level sensor.
  • Step 5 Follow the removal of those pieces by removing the bolts from the two front wiring harness, the engine wiring harness retainer, engine oil cooler pipe to oil bolts and the transmission oil cooler pipe retainer using a wrench. Located the closeout covers and bolts located on each side of the engine and remove them.
  • Step 6 Disconnect each of the oil pan bolts using a wrench that will allow the oil pan to drop. The oil pan gasket will also fall off and replacement should occur before reinstalling the oil pan.

    Drivers side about 3" from the back about 2" from the oil pan. Will have a single black wire leading from it to the wire harness

    P1762 - Governor Press Sensor Offset Volts too LOW or too High
    Circuit is monitored continuously while ignition is on and engine is running. DTC sets if the governor pressure is out of range in Park or Neutral for 1.3 seconds. The test must fail 3 times to set DTC.
    The following items may be the area of concern:
    • Solenoid pack connector 5-volt supply circuit open or shorted to ground.
    • Defective PCM.
    • Wiring harness and/or connectors defective.
    • Governor pressure sensor wiring harness and/or connectors defective.
    • Governor pressure sensor ground circuit open.
    • Transmission fluid burnt or oil pan contains excessive debris.

    If the solenoid you are looking at only has one wire, then it is grounded by the case itself (like your starter) If for some reason the case has a poor ground, check that engine has good clean solid ground (you can add extra ground as well).

    Oil Pan Gasket Replacement - How to - GMC Yukon 2000


    No big job Really. Just locate your Drain Plug for the Oil. Thepan is right there, Remove the Bolts around the Pan and Remove. You will lose all of your oil so, Have something there to catch it all. Clean it all around the Edges of the Block where the Pan mounts with Degreaser and Make sure that you Scrape the Old Gasket off of Both the Block and the Pan. Run a Thin Bead of Blue ATV Silicone around the Pan Edge, Lay the Gasket on top of this Silicone. Put another Thin line on top of the Gasket and Reinstall. This Silicone is High Temp Silicone and will Seal Very Well. Make sure to put oil Back in the Motor! Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help That I can Get! Thanks!

    It is located on the side of the oil pan, enclosed is a little more info on testing and installation.

    TESTING
    See Figure 1
    1. Unplug sensor connector and insert a jumper wire between terminals 1 and 2.
    2. Start the vehicle.
    3. If the light is on, check the harness and dashboard light.
    4. If the light is off, replace the sensor and recheck the light operation.

    1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    2. Unplug the connector from the sensor.
    3. Unfasten the sensor mounting bolts and remove the sensor from the oil pan.
    To install:

    2. Tighten the sensor mounting bolts.
    3. Plug in the sensor connector.
    4. Lower the vehicle.
