Open Question

I just replaced the TPS on my 86 Cadillac deville. Now error code E55 comes up on the ECM. I read that the TPS must be adjusted when replaced. How to I adjust it? Thanks in advance

SOURCE: What are the steps for adjusting a TPS on a 1986 Cadillac Deville?

You need a voltmeter to adjust it . Back probe the signal wire with aT pin or small paper clip . Hook voltmeter negative lead to ground and the positive to the T pin . You have to measure voltage between one of the pins and ground. When the throttle is closed, should be around 0.5 volts. Fully open is 5 volts. To check for the correct wire . there are three wires , one should have 5 volts , one should have continuity with ground . None of those is the one ! The signal return is probably the center wire , that's the one you check on . Just double check .

OK, I changed/adjusted the TPS on my 86 Cadillac. The car will start and run for about 20sec then shut off. Im getting error codes E22, E26, E52 and F32. Does anyone know what is wrong now?

Very likely it could be a crankshaft position sensor if you can fire it up and runs for 20 seconds and shuts down it could be your problem which if that is one of the error codes after a scan it can trigger other codes with that one faulty sensor

Have a 1988 Cadillac DeVille 4.5L TBI. It's stalling and hesitating when put in gear. Changed plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. still has an issue. service light comes on and goes off and comes on again....

Changing the fuel filter isn't a bad idea prior to getting into the O2 sensor. You may want to consider replacing the TPS (throttle position sensor). Do an on board diagnostic test to identify the areas of concern. Most likely you'll get error codes for both the MAF sensor and the TPS.

So I have a problem with my Cadillac Deville starting up sometimes, it hesitates and sounds like it trying to start then it stalls out then i crank it again and it will usually start with a lil smoke...

The only one to be concerned about right off isP0603 "Control Module long term reset". Once this is figured out the other codes will probably clear.

Possible causes Loose or poor battery terminal connection Low battery charge Engine Control Module (ECM) / Powertrain Control Module (PCM) power supply circuit is open or shorted ECM/PCM Programing Faulty ECM/PCM
