Sound as though you have a lean burn condition and this is usually caused from a vacuum leak and that is what I would check for first.What engine is in it?

You may have what they call a pre-cat. as well as the actual converter two. People shoul;d always check the pre-cat before the main one if you think something got stopped up and it won't start. Hope this is a little help. Raz

Advance auto and auto zone sell just the flex pipe. You will need to have someone cut the old one out and weld the new one in. costs about $20 for part vs $300 for pipew/catalitic converter attached.
