Question about 1987 Ford Ranger

87 ranger v6 - need vacuum line from top of air filter

I need to replace the vacuum line that connects from the top of air filter and the one that goes into the passenger side of engine. It has a wiring in the line and it does have air through it. I have them taped, but air is leaking. Ford says they no longer make this part. I need to get it to pass emissions and get it to run right. Any one have any ideas how to replace or seal the line?

Thanks

1985 ford ranger, v6 2.8l, 5speed, came without a carburetor and now i have now idea how to follow the regular vacuume line scematic, please hellp with more details or step by step pictures

Matthew, I assume you have replaced the missing carb with a new one, is it an OEM original? or an after market? It matters what carb you put on because of smog laws and whether or not the carb you bought is smog legal for your truck, if it is not the exact same as the factory original then there wont be a correct vacuum line schematic. If when you do have the correct replacement carb then type in (1985 ford ranger, v6 2.8l vacuum line diagram) in to your google search engine, search under " images" there you will find lots of diagrams of vacuum line routing. If you are not able to do any of this then take the truck to a qualified service tech, there are also mobile service mechanics that can help, good luck to you sir. One final note, you can plug each of the vacuum outlets on the carburetor with the appropriate size vacuum caps, this will allow you to start the engine and make minor adjustments, then you can drive the truck to a qualified tech

2.8 v6 ford ranger runs rough at a idle how do I fix this

Being an 85, I would start by replacing all the vacuum lines and fittings, along with the pcv valve. Next would be a tune up, clean the throttle/carb and a fuel and air filter.

1988 ford ranger 2.3l 5spd 2wd. Exhaust pipe tip is black. Fuel mileage is 13mpg. Replaced fuel filter; 8 plugs and wires, o2 sensor, thermostat, air filter, egr valve, cleaned iac and intake, ran sea foam...

The regulator is on top of the engine along the gas line. It has a vacuum line on top. Start the truck and pull the vacuum line off the regulator. If fuel comes out of the regulator, it has failed. You can run pretty rich with a busted regulator-especially at idle.

If you took the filter out does it still die ? if it doesn't then replace it if its dirty you should replace it anyway a dirty air filter effects gas mileage as far as it dieing and if the filter wasn`t the problem then it could need a tune up. The timing chain may also be getting week

2001 v6 4.0 ranger erratic idling at stop

That's where I would start. Get a spray bottle with water in it and a few drops of dish soap just to make it sudsy. Start the truck and spray around all of the vacuum lines, intake manifold, etc. If the idle goes up, that's your leak. Good luck

Where is the pcv valve located on a 2003 ford ranger

  • The PCV valve can be located in several places. The most common location is in a rubber grommet in the valve cover. It can be installed in the middle of the hose connections, as well as installed directly in the intake manifold.
  • Once the PCV valve is located, make sure all the PCV system hoses are properly connected and that they have no breaks or cracks.
  • Remove the air cleaner and inspect the air and crankcase filters. Crankcase blowby can clog these with oil. Clean or replace such filters.
  • Oil in the air cleaner assembly indicates that the PCV valve or hoses are plugged.
  • Make sure you check these and replace the valve and clean the hoses and air cleaner assembly.
  • When the PCV valve and hose are in satisfactory condition and there is oil in the air cleaner assembly, perform a cylinder compression test to check for worn cylinders and piston rings.

Sounds like it is loading up on gas, try using a cleaner in your fuel, or a aerosol can of cleaner that you can spray directly into the carb. while it is running. It this seems to help you may need to have it rebuilt.
