I cant get the axle nut off to take the roter off the front wheel

A large breaker bar and deep well socket is required to get the axle nut off. They are torqued down very tight-about 150 ft. lbs. Easier to loosen the nut sith the car and wheel on the ground, then you can raise the car, remove wheel, remove the nut and washer, and get to the rotor.

How to fix front wheel bearings on 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Your wheel bearings are contained in a sealed hub assembly. In order to change them you change the entire hub. That requires removal of the axle end nut, brake caliper and rotor, then removing the three bolts on the inboard side of the steering knuckle that retain the hub. Generally it's easier to get the hub out if you only run the retaining bolts out part way and they put a socket that you will never use again on them and use a hammer on the back of that socket to push the hub out of the knuckle, alternating sides.
Once removed, lightly sand the rust from the hub bore and put a light coating of grease inside to aid in replacing the new hub assembly. Remainder of the job is just reversing what you did to take it out. Axle nut should be torqued to around 125lbs (check that #...I'm doing this from memory).
In any case, once that nut has been tightened, if it uses a cotter pin, never back it off to match the through hole, always go tighter.

How do you remove a front cv axle?

remove the tire, seperate the lower ball joint from the knuckle, remove the axle nut, push the axle out of the hub, use a prybar to gently pop the axe out of the transmission (make sure you have a drain pan under the trans to catch any fluid that may come out). When reinstalling make sure you tighten the axle nut to the proper spec. This will keep your wheel bearing from going bad.
