What was the behavior up to this point? Did the problem start gradually?

Most likely solutions:

(1) Battery is low on charge and under load it cannot energize the solenoid to engage the starter motor to the engine. Check the battery or have it checked. Most places will do this for free.

(2) Starter motor and/or solenoid has failed. Easiest to just replace both.

Symptoms of a clogged fuel pump

Fuel pumps don't get clogged, filters will get clogged, Check your fuel filter if you suspect that. Fuel pumps will have symptoms of failing like once you start to drive for a while the car will just die, after it sits for a while, (the fuel pump will cool back down) it will restart and run for a while again. This will continue to happen sooner and take longer before it restarts until it finally will not restart. Or it may just lock up and never spin up again. You should be able to hear the fuel pump spinning while you turn your key on. If you don't hear it it's probably not working properly. The fuel pumps wear out faster if you run your car with your tank near empty often. The pumps are submerged in the fuel to help to keep it cooled down, they spin at 10,000 RPM so they get really hot. Without the gas surrounding it, they will fail much faster.

Installed a new ignition (key) now when i turn key to start i get no power

Hi. There are things to be check for no starting problem. When you turn the key to sart position, did you hear the engine roaring? if there is no roaring sound you might want to check first with your starter. If you have a helper, you can test the connection by holding a circuit tester lead on the wire that engages the starter. This is the smaller of the two wires connected to the starter. Be sure no part of your body is near the moving parts of the engine - it could still start at any time! Have a friend turn the key and check the current. If you're getting current to the starter but it ain't spinning, it needs replacement.

If your starter spins freely when you turn the key, the problem lies elsewhere. Now you begin to check the other systems that could keep it from firing up. Next to check is the fuel pump. To check your fuel pump, you can do a fuel system pressure test - if you have the equipment. Since most of us don't have that type of thing, we'll first check the electrical connections. Test the positive side of the fuel pump for current with a circuit tester. Be sure the key is in the "On" position. If there's current, move on to the next step. If not, you should check the fuse. If the fuse is good, your problem is the fuel pump relay. If the fuel pump is working properly and fuel is still not reaching the engine, the problem could be a clogged fuel filter. You should be replacing your fuel filter every 12,000 miles or so anyway, so if you suspect it could be clogged, go ahead and replace it.

Filled 2001 Alero with gas now car won't start

Have the fuel checked to make sure it is not contaminated with water and such.Pull the fuel filter, and try to blow threw it with your mouth, nasty, but it will tell you what you need to know. Also see if fuel will pump into a clear jar, with the fuel filter off, when turning on the key. Then check the fuel in the jar,you should be able to see the contaminates, and the water.

Starting problem

when you try to start it does the engine spin but not start, or the coomon one is turn the key and just a noise but no spinning of the motor, if motor does not spin over then check the starter and cable at starter, this is a common problem with fords, the cable at starter get corrioded. hope this helps.

My daughter car :Nissian Sentra 2002. GXE 14.8 troubling starting

The pump does have a filter on it but you should also have an inline fuel filter somewhere underneath your car, Check the pump when you turn the ignition key on the pump should run for a second or two then shut off if you can hear it , it is working. It is rare for a vechicle not to have an inline fuel filter but there are some models that don't have one. The filters on the pumps usually don't stop up that often,it's pretty rare.I would try to replace the inline filter call and ask your local part store if they have one for it and you will know for sure. And usually if the crank sensor is bad it won't crank at all.

I need to replace the fuel filter on my 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax Diesel 6.6L. Please tell me how to do it.

ITS A SPIN ON FILTER, YOU NEED TO DISCONNECT THE WATER SENSOR ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FILTER, THEN USING A STRAP FILTER WRENCH LOOSEN THE FILTER AND SPIN IT OFF.

CHECK THE FILTER HOUSING TO BE SURE THE INNER FILTER SEAL ISN'T ON THE HOUSING AND CAME OFF WITH THE FILTER.

REMOVE THE WATER LEVEL SENSOR AND DISCARD THE SEAL.

INSTALL THE WATER LEVEL SENSOR ON THE NEW FILTER. USING A LITTLE GREASE ON THE INNER FILTER SEAL AND ON THE OUTER O-RING TO HOLD IT IN PLACE, SPIN ON THE NEW FILTER.

OPEN THE VENT ON THE UPPER SIDE OF THE FILTER HOUSING. PUSH DOWN ON THE HAND PUMP QUICKLY UNTIL THE FUEL IS COMING OUT OF THE VENT. CLOSE THE VENT AND PUMP THE FILTER PUMP UNTIL IT FEELS SOLID. AT THIS POINT START THE ENGINE. IF IT STALLS PUMP IT UP AGAIN AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IF YOU HAVE AN ASSISTANT THEY CAN PUMP THE FILTER PUMP WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND QUIT WHEN YOU FEEL THE ENGINE IS NOT GOING TO STALL. ABOUT 10 TO 15 SECONDS USUALLY WORKS.

CHECK FOR LEAKS.

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE USE BRAKE WASH TO REMOVE THE FUEL SPILLED DURING THE FILTER REPLACEMENT. ALLOW IT TO DRY BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE.

RATE ME PLEASE.

My trucks starts but keep quiting

I see you say that you have a new fuel filter but did you try replacing the fuel pump??? If not you can check the fuel pump simply by turning the key to the ACC position (thats as far as you can turn the key WITHOUT starting the truck) listen by where you pump the gas in and try to hear a low sounding whine if you cant hear it then it could be your fuel pump is dead and needs a new one....or it might be going dead.

fuel pump died replaced it truck ran poorly afterwards. Had a prussuer test done pump determend pump was no good. Put in another ran good for 2 days started running poorly hard to start no power. 2nd fuel pump. So i figure another bad new fuel pump wow changed it put in a third brand new fuel pump. Still will not eve start now. I had it tuned up 2 months ago new plugs rotor, cap, etc. put in a new fuel filter made sure it is on proper checked all connections for leaks. this cannot be a fuel pump problem now. no problem with the elctrical i figure i have great spark on ignition tester. I can hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key. but when i went and checked the fuel port i had no pressure. When it is being cranked gas sews out of the test port. Also i dont if this is comon cause i used to turn my keyand go. but when i have someone turn the key and i listen at the gas tank whn the key is shut off i hear gs spraying back into the gas tank. So i am open for opinions.
