Sorry about the jamessizer sales "SPAM"

Sometimes a tiny bit of dirt can be carried by the key into the
lock mechanism...

As GENERAL MOTORS locks have been of
GREAT CONTROVERY
(legal issues... and RECALLS) over LIFE SAFETY
problems you should, at the very least,

- make sure you read the
TECHNICAL SERVIVE BULLETINS (TSB)

- Check with your dealer to be assured
ALL ACTIVITY is up to date.

- Do not use ignition keys that are heavily laden
with other keys (weight of any kind)

See FREE TSBs (TECHNICAL SERVIVE BULLETINS)
at BBB Industries (below, registration required).

To solve your immediate problems
Get a new "third" TRANSPONDER key cut to your
ignition switch...

Always make sure your keys
on ROCKAUTO or a similar sourceare clean when you use then
Get some Lockease (but place news paper or a shop towel beneath the lock before spraying it... (it is a liquefied graphite mix that can smooth the action of difficult locks... Good stuff
(BUT MESSY).

Amazon com AGS LE5 Lock Ease Automotive

If your lock is still uncooperative... TAKE IT TO YOUR DEALER....
or A CERTIFIED locksmith...

But only after you have priced out your lock cylinder

Amazon com Dorman 924 713 Ignition Lock Housing Automotive

Your objective is to have your NEW LOCK coded to your EXISTING KEYS... not to make things more difficult & expensive for yourself (simple process for a competent SMITHY.

Hope this helps!!

2004 envoy starts then shuts off and after that I turn the key and it will only crank not start

Could be bad electrical part that works for a bit while cold, but fails as it heats. Coil, ignition module, cam/crank sensor.

For quirky things like that, I' look first at your ignition switch (common problem). Not the switch the key goes into, but it' located under the steering wheel column cover, on the bottom (black). Did your key get stuck in the ignition too at some point?

2002 GMC Envoy, i put the key in ignition and vehicle will not start sometimes and other times is starts fine. we have checked the starter, battery and battery connections, all fine. Changed the starter...

Ignition switch and neutral safety switch. Next time it happens wiggle thekeys in the ignition switch and try to restart. If it starts its probably the ignition switch. Then locate neutral safety switch on brake pedal and put meter on B+ wire from switch to starter relay and see if you get B+ on the would -be- crank. Next locate B+ wire from starter relay to starter hook a meter to it and see if you get B+ on the would -be crank.
Where ever B+ is missing is your problem.

Ignition keys relearn takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself.

Ignition key 2004 envoy

I had same problem. I would sometimes also leave the door open with lights on inside for 5 mins - then I could not start car, and key would not release.

I had a bad cell in the battery. Replaced the battery and all worked fine.
