I have a 2005 Santa Fe with 69,000 miles on it. I am going to drive it another 3,ooo without changing the timingbelt. Should I be worried?

CAUTION: If your Santa Fe has the 4 cylinder engine (2.4 Lit I4), that's DEFINITLY a risk. Get the belt inspected! The 2.4 lit 4 cylinder is notorious for belt failure (even before 60,000 miles due to the heat generated by the engine in the timing belt area. There is also a balance belt accompanying the timing belt on the 2.4 lit -- it is also prone, but not like the timing belt).

If it's the 2.7 or the 3.5 Lit V6, I still recommend you have the belt inspected by a competent technician.

How often does the cam belt (or timing belt) have to be changed on my Hyundai Santa Fe (Reg 51)?

Car Manufacturer's Recommendations A standard replacement period for the timing belt will fall between 50,000 and 100,000 driven miles. The owner's manual or service manual for your particular model will give you a specific time for replacement.

Does the 2002 hyundai santa fe have an interference engine? It has a 2.4L 4-cylinder.

Hi:
All of the engines in Hyundai santa fe are interference engines, so you should regularly change your timing belt. The timing belt also drives the water pump, so it is always a good idea to change that too, if you have the engine apart for the timing belt. Here is a link to check out!

I have a 02 santa fe . can i go 90,000 be for changing belt.

Carfixer 1 is right. The Hyundai engine is called an interference engine, which means that when the timing belt breaks, it will allow the valves to hit the pistons and you will ruin your engine.

Do yourself a favor and replace the belt at recommended intervals. If you are past the 60k mark, have it done right away and save yourself a lot of grief and expense.

I AM TOLD I NEED TO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT ON MY 2006 4X4 HYUNDAI SANTA FE BECAUSE I'M AT 62,000 MILES AND MY MAINT. BOOK STATES IT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT 50K. IS THIS COSTLY?

$400 to $500 dollars... and the replacement interval is not 50,000 miles.. it's 60,000 (by the way, the reason the belt should be replaced is the fact IT'S GOING TO BREAK.... no doubts!).

Cam Belt change

Hello mike_potts07: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. The suggested miles to change your timing belt is 60,000 miles. This is manufacturers recommended service interval. Also this motor is an interference motor. What that means is if the timing belt breaks. The valves in the head will be hit by the pistons. This will bend all valves that are open at that time.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. This way we can tell the information was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

When should the cam/timing belt be changed in the Hyundai Santa Fe?

A broken timing belt should not affect the gearbox. The dealer does not by routine replace the timing belt at the recommended interval due to the cost. They inform you that it is due and then you choose to have them do the work or not. Can you imagine that you take your car in for routine maintenance and then get hit with an unexpected 700.00 bill because they replaced the timing belt without your knowledge? Besides, they'll probably stand on the legal ground that the timing belt interval is stated in your owner's manual, and claim that you should have read it to become familiar with your car.
