If you have the data sheet or can contact your dealer they can pull up all the numbers you need for your vehicle --and as to the correct number needed will need to contact the customs or proper agency issuing the form as to the correct numbers required

I just purchased a used Chevy small block, Cast # 10243878 which states it's a 1996-1997 305. Can you help me ID the serial number which is 1M03291606?

I can easily cross over the block/casting number but the serial numbers are not listed. The only real difference in small blocks is the bore and stroke and the number of main bearing bolts, if you plan to built up the engine you need a 4 bolt main cap engine block

Small block chevy id v0313frs

Are you sure you have the correct engine model number? What is the year and the make of the car? That makes a big difference as the 305 is a later model engine.

Find the engine identification tag. Attached at the factory, this tag is normally found on the engine block around the coil bolts. The top line of the tag identifies engine size and model year.

Search the block for the engine block casting number. The numbers are raised, not stamped into the block and consist of seven numeric digits. The digits can be located on either side of the block. The seven-digit number may be followed with a dash and further numbers. These are change codes and are not normally necessary to identify the engine.

Locate the casting date is located on the block. It is in standard date coding, 2.25.93, for example and may be located on either side of the block, but is commonly located on the driver's side of the block, above the freeze plugs. The example 2.25.93 decodes as February 25, 1993. The casting date may be near the casting clock, which designates the hour the block was cast. Magnum engines were manufactured from 1993 to 2002, so verifying the date code helps identify the engine.

Where is the engine number located?

Engine numbers are cast into the block, with all manufacturers finding new ways to hide them. Typically you can find the number on the rear of the engine ( the hardest place to look). The cylinder head also has a cast number on it and those are usually easier to find, commonly being on 1 of the vertical sides or end, although sometimes it is hidden under the valve cover. The head casting should help to ID the engine manufacture date, if that is what you're after. Spraying a rag with carb cleaner and wiping down possible locations will help to highlight the cast number you re looking for. Not all mfrs used cast numbers - some use punch pins to indent the number in the same basic locations and the carb cleaner will help to find those too.

95 gmc suburban heater hose from core to back of engine, fitting broke, threads still in the engine????

Sorry but its very likely those threads are still stuck in your engine. GM used Plastic, Steel and Cast parts, the most common being a steel that rusts away and gives you the result you now have. You might get lucky removing the broken remains yourself. If you can reach it, you may try an extractor or "easy-out" which is a reverse threaded tool to try and back out the part. however, these are never in an easy to reach location, and more careful extraction may be needed. In that case do not attempt it yourself unless you are very mechanically oriented. you can easily damage your engine block or intake (depending upon where its located). Also note: if the fitting is corroded, so will many other parts in your engine such as the freeze plugs and other fittings. Consider checking these items out as well before big problems arise.

-Good luck
