Make them show you. The valves in the tank don't come out threw the top anyway. you have to reach inside the tank to release them and pull them out threw the fuel pump hole. Most likely they cracked it trying to pry the valve out of the tank on top.

only the mechanic can answer that, he's the one looking at the car. If he diagnosed a bad valve, get it fixed., then see if it made a difference.

I have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, lately everytime i fill up it takes a long while to get it started again.Once it's started, it's fine until the next fill up. any suggestions??

Sounds like the purge control valve on your evaporative system is stuck open. In this case, what happens during fill-up is that fuel vapors are forced from the fuel tank into the intake manifold, effectively flooding the engine.
Todays fuel tanks are vented back into the engine. A "Carbon Canister" is supposed to absorb the vapors and then feed them into the engine in a controlled manner. If your canister is saturated or the purge valve stuck open, the fumes can "flood" the engine while refueling. Try holding the throttle wide open when you start after refueling to clear the vapor quickly.

Also next time you go to fill up, don't fill it all the way, maybe half or so, since the evap lines are at the top of the tank this should solve your problem, and give you at least some good information to take to your mechanic

My mom has a 2003 ford windstar and just last week the check engine light came on. We took it in to have it looked and it came up with the codes PO171 and PO174, what can those codes mean?

it means you may have a big vacuum leak, or the maf sensors little wires inside of it are dirty and need to be cleaned, or the maf sensor failed. Also there is a TSB that says to remove the PCV valve on the valve cover near the radiator, Then remove the little rubber grommet and look inside. At about the 5 oclock position you may see a little hole on the plate that is above the valves . If you see the hole then your suppose to replace the valve cover.
If all this fails to fix the problem then you need to remove the intake plennun and inspect and replace the gaskets.

What is an error for P0456. Found this code when i took an emmissions test today, and failed. what will i need to do/fix to get it reset and to pass?

This is an evaporative emmisions - small leak detected. Sometimes caused by fueling with the engine running (the fuel cap has to seal the fuel tank for the pressure sensor to read correctly), but can be a leak at the evaporative canister, Check valve on top of the fuel tank cracked and a host of other components, fittings or leak points. Best bet is to have a diagnostic done by a shop which should include pressurizing lines, etc.

Today after work my '04 Tiburon took like 6 trys to start? any suggestions or potential issues this is commenly related to?

try for temp use, turn key to on position and wait 3sec then try to start. You might have a fuel injector leaking pressure while system is shut off. There is also a fuel pressure regulator that is supposed to work as a check valve. If it leaks down psi then it could cause hard to start. By turning key and waiting the fuel pump primes for intial start.

Change gas pump on 04 cavalier

it should take you about 4 hours at the most, you'll need a jack for the tank, and you'll need quick disconect tools for the fuel lines. Pump comes out of the tank rather easily. DO NOT USE AN ELETRIC DROP LIGHT WHILE DOING THIS. The risk of spark is great. If you've check the relay, and its ok than you need a fuel pump.

'96 Regal Purge Canister Valve?

ADAM
THE PURGE SOLANOID IS ON THE ENGINE WITH A RED CONNECTOR ON IT. IT IS LOCATED ON THE REAR OF THE ENGINE ABOVE THE REAR VALVECOVER. YOU ARE ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR THE CANISTER VENT SOLANOID AND IT IS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR AND THEY FAIL OFTEN. GET THE PART FROM G.M. AND THEY CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHERE IT IS. THE G.M. PART IS UNDER $30.00.

Fuel gauge not working

The sending unit is in the fuel tank. Check for connections to sending unit. Sounds likely since it happened after work was done in that area 0900c152800711f7.gif
