Car shakes when I hit the brakes, but its not the rotors.

If it does this when you are stopping it could be a strut or a caliper locking up. If it does this when it is idling then it is most likely the Master cylinder or more precisely that vacuum line that runs to the top of the booster having a leak or having too much vacuum. The 2000 had the option of ABS and if you are feeling it in the brake pedal then it could just be the ABS acting up. It was Optional in 2000 and not installed on all models.

The brake warning light will not go out on the instrument panel of our 2000 Plymouth Neon. We have replaced a rear wheel cylinder, the lines have been bled. The master cylinder has been checked. I am...

The issue will most likely NOT be dash wiring. Something is still tripped. Most likely is there is a switch that trips when one 1/2 of the brakes fail, like the rear wheel cylinder. Try bleeding brakes, again, including OTHER brakes than the ones that you repaired, allowing this switch to move in the other direction. Watch for the light to go out during this process.

My 99 Plymouth Neon made a loud clunking noise and then the rear dirver's side tire locked up. I reversed a bit and it seemed to free the tire but locked up again after a second.

sounds like something came loos in your brakes drum or a wheel baring is faulty it could be the parking brake hanging up that sounds like{ A safety issue and should be Looked at by some one familier with experience}

96 Plymouth Neon rear tire locked up

Parking brake is stuck ( possibly ),engauging parking brake a few times which in most cases will not help ( never know when they stick ) and at the back of the drum backing plate towards the axle will be the cable give it a couple good tuggs to release it and do not use it again or replace the cables ( if that is the case), if it will not release and or is free the you may have contamination in the brake lines to the rear right causing the caliper to be stuck open. The bleed the rear brake line best possible solution after that garage.

Replace rear shoes

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove the rear wheels.
  3. Remove the drums.
  4. Remove the automatic adjuster spring and lever.
  5. Remove the hold-down clips and pins.
  6. Rotate the automatic adjuster starwheel enough so both shoes move out far enough to be free of the wheel cylinder boots.
  7. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the actuating lever.
  8. Remove the lower shoe to shoe spring.
  9. With the shoes held together by the upper shoe to shoe spring, remove them from the backing plate. 0900c152800c4b3d.jpgKelsey Hayes rear brake assembly (left side shown) 0900c152800c4b3e.jpgExploded view of the drum brake assembly—2004 model shown
