SOURCE: Driveshaft yoke balancer

I had the same problem and removed the balancer from the drive shaft this morning. I put the drive shaft back on, and drove the truck around all day, highway, city, stop and go, there were no problems, and the noise was gone, and I had no vibrations at all. So you should be fine if you remove the balancer.

SOURCE: harmonic balancer removal. I have nut out but it seems stuck. How do I pull it off. Do I have to remove more than the bolt

Most balancers have a very tight fit to the crank. You will need to use a puller to remove it. If purchasing one dosn't seem economical to you, some auto parts stores rent out specialty tools for free.

SOURCE: Mitsubishi Eclipse Harmonic Balancer 3.0L Removal

There is a panel inside the wheel well that you can take off that gives you perfect access to the harmonic balancer. A special tool is required. i had my dad make one because he has access to whatever he needs at the factory. but you can get them at the dealer. i have no clue how much they cost. I can't see any way of doing it without the special tool. after you get the tool its pretty simple to get off. it takes alot of force to break the bolt loose though. i used the handle off my jack as a cheater bar. hope this helps...

How do I remove a harmonic balancer on a 1966 chevy c10. Also is there a bolt I need to remove first? And is there a key way. So I can make sure it goes back on in the right position?

you will need a harmonic balance pulling tool to remove it, there is a bolt that keeps it fastened to the end of the crankshaft. its in the centre of the balancer and yes there is a key way that locates the balancer on the crankshaft and causes the balancer to turn with the crank without spinning on it.

How do I calibrate a Coats 700 tire balancer?

go to google --type in and there is a full operatots manual for that machine
you tube states that it is an auto calibrated machine
there is a calibration check procedure in the operators manual and again it states that the calibration is to fine tune for single spin operations.
I found this by typing into google---calibrating a coats 700 tyre balancer and there are pages which included the nytecsupply page.

How to install balance drive gear on crankshaft 2007 Camry 2.4

Remove old crankshaft pulley ( Harmonic Balancer), by putting sturdy socket, think its 19mm, or 3/4 " on the center crankshaft bolt, with a good size breaker bar, wedge the breaker bar in between the suspension, and drive axle, to keep the breaker bar from spinning, while, you now turn the key inside the car, to engage starter, to spin the crankshaft, which may take several attempts, of turning the key, and putting socket back on, they are very stubborn,to break the center bolt loose,
Then remove harmonic balancer, with a PULLER, which requires 2 bolts, in the threaded holes, one on each side of the now empty center bolt hole, autozone , advance, has these to loan out, only requires deposit, which they give back to you, when you return it.
Put square key in slot on bare crankshaft, slide harmonic balancer,(crankshaft pulley, while lining up the square key,and tighten crankshaft bolt.

The out of the pulley with the harmonic balancer keeps coming out causing the belt to come off I've tapped it back on a couple of times it keeps coming back out only now my car has a loud knock what could...

typically harmonic balancers are balanced and indexed to the crankshart they are bolted to. the harmonic balancer should have been replaced when it first came apart. it sounds like the the reinstallation of the defective balancer caused the rotating assembly of the engine to be out of balance. given time this will always damage the main bearings of the engine and I think this is the loud knock you are now hearing. do not continue to use the car and take it to a competent mechanic to evaluate and give you an estimate for the repairs.

Harmonic balancer standing still while car is running

Are the belts completely still while running? If not the balancer might actually be spinning fine and just look still because it is spinning fast enough (a friend of mine came to me with the same thing). Looking at the 1990 harmonic balancer the only thing that would seem to cause that is if the bolt wasn't tight enough or somehow went bad, in which case only the bolt would spin. Or the alignment piece (a small metal bit on the back side) had the dual function of traction and broke (don't lose this bit if it's not broke). Or something more serious involving what the bolt threads into. By the way you will need a special tool to remove the harmonic balancer if you plan to do that.

There is a key way in the crankshaft and the balancer with a woodruff key that keeps it locked in place. The woodruff key resembles a half moon shape. You will have to remove the balancer to see what kind of damage there is and go from there.

Power sterring will not line up with other pulls

is it a 4.0l 6 cylinder?
if it is then its not the power steering pump pulley, unless it has been removed and reinstalled incorrectly.
the harmonic balancer has come apart [crank pulley] the rubber insulator between the center and outside parts of the balancer has deteriorated and the outer ring has moved forward or back.look at the inner edge of the balancer were the belt rides, there is a timing marker on the timing cover the inner edge of the balancer should be just a bit under the timing tab.if not or you see rubber sticking out of balancer face then replace balancer
a common problem on 6 cylinder jeeps

Harmonic balancer pulley is free spinning/not charging alternator .making a metal grinding metal sound ,doesnt have any power at take off, sluggish changing gears .

If the harmonic balancer is spinning freely on the crank, the key has sheared off and likely has damaged the balancer and possibly the crank. Pull it off, replace the key and check the balancer and crank for excessive wear.

2001 Ford Taurus, Harmonic balancer removal

I had this problem and had to block the teeth of the harmonic balancer with a 2-ton hydraulic jack handle (use an assistant to hold) while I torqued on the bolt with a 4-way lug wrench and a length of pipe. Took a minute, but finally we heard the "ping" of the seal breaking and were able to remove that BAB.
