The fuel tank filler has a small tube that releases air while the tank is filling. If fuel has entered this tube from a sudden stop, allow the tube to dry out by leaving the gas cap off for a while before you try adding fuel.

Difficult to fill fuel tank. Fuel pump shuts off constantly as if the tank is full. Fuel tank is nearly empty. Believe problem in vapor canister system.

This is a common problem when filling up especially with the smaller nozzles on modern pumps. You could try pulling the pump out slightly say a third as this often works, also tipping the nozzle can help. The system will stop pumping if it senses back pressure through overfill. I hope this will help you to solve the problem.

2002 ford explorer while filling the gas tank the pump trips every couple of tens of gallons

This is caused by a defective fuel vapor recovery system in the fill pipe, you need the dealer to repair this.

Locate fuel emissions canister diagram on f 150 1997

Look directly behind and above your gas tank near the spear tire. It should look like a black metal tube with a hose that runs over and connects into your fuel system right behind where you put your gas in. Hope that helps. Should be pretty easy to spot if you cant see it just follow the tube in from your filling line only two ways to go, gas tank or charcoal canister.

When I try to put fuel in my 04 f150 it kicks the fuel system over flow on the gas pump

Don't put the fill nozzle in all the way... pretty common problem.... fuel vapors come out the neck fooling the nozzle into thinking gas is overflowing. Not only is it annoying, but the vapor recovery system in the pump is actually sucking gas (vapors) from your tank, essentially robbing you of gas. Always try to fill when temperatures are cooler, like early morning or night, to reduce vapor recovery.

You may be overfilling the tank. The fuel tank is connected to a vapor recovery system. If you over fill it it will be drawn into the recovery system and kick the engine light on. By the time you have run a half a tank of fuel thru it, it has cleared. Try stopping the fuel fill when the nozzle kicks off and not trying to get that extra 2 dollars worth in it and see if the helps.

Fuel filling issues. When filling gas tank, can not squeaze handle more then a quarter before it kicks off.

Fuel tank is not venting proper, most likely vapor recovery system has a blockage.

Car won't start after filling up the gas tank.

Just helped a friend fix this exact same issue on his 2004 hyundai santa fe. Replaced the purge control valve - a $39 part, even from the dealer. Had to get our hands dirty, but it took literally one single hour to replace the part. Filled it up immediately afterward and no more starting problems. Part is located directly behind the manifold - top, rear of the engine compartment - just between the engine

Fuel Odor on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The evap system ( fuel vapor recovery system ) , if there is a leaky hose, can let fumes out that can be detected in the cab. If you "top off" the fuel at the pump you can spill fuel into the charcoal canister meant for fuel vapors only. the vapor recovery system is behind the left rear tire.

Usually if there is a hose leak a check engine light will come on.

If you TOP OFF, don't. If you don't, good. Hope this helps.
