2006 Ford 500 steering wheel locked or power steering not working. Check system alert and battery light turns on.

Call your Ford dealer and ask them if you car has a locking steering wheel.
Since "forever" ago, there was a were "star wheels" attached to the inside of the steering column, for the purpose of preventing theft by locking the steering wheel when the key was removed.. The bad side was that those locks can jamb if the steering wheel
is at the end of it's travel, such as can happen if the front wheel of the car is jammed against a curb when parked.
Your fix might just be to turn the steering wheel whilst trying to start it, though it may take a little muscle.
God bless your efforts.

Steering wheel stuck and key wont turn

One of the things is a lock-out switch on the brake pedal lever. Some are coordinated with the gearshift, the Keyswitch, and the starter Relay. Check to see if the brake lights work when you press on the brake pedal. If no signal is going to the brake lights, then there is a chance that the Park shift lever, the steering wheel and the Keyswitch are bound up.

Sometimes a steering wheel is at the extreme reach of the travel in the front suspension. This can sometimes happen in cold weather when the car is sitting on ice or snow. When the ice or snow melts, the front tires settle into a position that puts pressure on the steering wheel and loads Torque up the steering column. Another possibility is that the car was bumped in the Parking lot and jammed into a position creating Torque on the steering column.

Last, the tumbler inside the Keyswitch could have fallen apart and that is why the mechanism is not releasing the steering wheel.

There are adjustments in the Keyswitch to be at the correct position to work with the lockout at the bottom of the steering column.

What is an abs wheel sensor

It is a sensor that can detect one or more wheels traveling at a different speed. This way it can tell if a wheel is about to lock up. It will release and put pressure on the brake hundreds of times a second to stop wheel from skidding.

Locked up Steering Wheel

Your Wheels may not be straight which could cause the steering wheel lock to get stuck. Turn the steering wheel left and right, from one stop to the other, watching how far the wheel travels. Now, turn the wheel to the center of the travel distance and turn the key. If this doesn't free it up, turn the key as you turn the steering wheel left then right to get the lock to release the wheel. Hope this helps and please rate my solution - and thanks for using Fixya!!

Four wheel drive locked in but front tires wont spin in 96 chevorlet sliverado

If the Tires wont spin then it isnt locked in.
If it really is engaged like you think it is and they dont turn then something is broken in the differential. If that was the case then it should be makeing lots of noise.
Now it is very very common for the electro-mechanical device that engages the the 4wheel drive at the differential to go bad. If you look at the front differential you cant miss the 4 wheel drive actuator. It has a couple wires that come out and plug into the wiring harness.
Usually if this part fails I understand the 4wheel drive indicator lights wont come on? I could be wrong on that. My sub is 3 years older and that was the case with it.

Hi i have a grand cherokee 2003, lately when

It seems as though one of your front drive axle universals has failed and locked up. The other possibility would be a dry steering knuckle. Thank you, Dana

What to do if anti lock light comes on

Take the vehicle to a nearby parts store and see if they can run the code for you. most of the time its the Wheel Bearing on the front wheels of the car. The sensor is built in so you would have to replace it as an assembly. Wheel bearings and sensor related problems have always been an issue with these types of GM cars. When you get the associate to pull the Anti-Lock codes on your vehicle look to see which wheel it brings up as a fault. To further diagnose it see if you can borrow the scan tool and the associate to drive the vehicle down the road with the scan tool on the Data menu, in Anti-Lock Brakes menu. This will bring up the four wheel speed sensors as well as the transmission speed sensor. Compare the speed as you travel down the road and watch for any glitches or slower speed at one of the wheels. Dont be alarmed if the speeds are different while making a turn this is because the wheels do not travel at the same speed while turning. After you find the culprit you may replace the part as necessary.

Steering box adjustment, how

Before you do this procedure, check the rubber or universal joint connector between steering column and the steering gear. If it's worn it will cause looseness and there's your problem. Otherwise, there is a threaded screw with a lock nut on the top of steering gear. Clean threads first. Put a large flat screwdriver on the screw and loosen the lock nut. Back it off several turns. Now, screw the screw down into the gear box. Not too tight though. Your actually jamming the gears back together. Back it off a 1/2 turn or so and run it back in lightly. Hold the screwdriver and tighten the lock nut. This is usually effective.
