How do I bypass the neutral safety switch on a 97 neon

While not a good idea for safety reasons, you can hook the two wires together that run to your clutch pedal. But fair warning it will start in gear. Can be dangerous. Hope this helps

My back up lights wont work on my 97 dodge neon, i changed the fuse and the light bulbs, now what? help please

Hi!!
What controls the Back Up Lights is the Neutral Safety Switch/Back Up Switch, located on the transmission shifter (engine compartment). Check for 12v+ coming in from the fuse box to the Neutral Safety Switch, if OK, check for 12v+ out of the wire going to the back up lights when in Reverse, if no power, replace switch, if there is power, check wiring from switch to back up lights.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a 97 Ford Aerostar 3.0 LT wont start

the neutral safety switch is on the transmission where the gear shift cable hooks to it, and I feel like it is out of adjustment and is the cause of your problem.

Neutral safety switch

The neutral safety/back-up light switch is located at the transmission. I am attaching a photo for reference. Hope this helps and best wishes.
