1988 Toyota truck 4x4 3.0c 6cy....I have a mise in my truck but the check engine light doesn't come on why could this be

the engine light will not come on unless the fault is detrimental to the engine or gear box. Run fault codes to find misfiring coils and injectors or other sensors that is causing the problems.

My 1981 VW diesel was running and parked. Then it just went off as if I turned it off. Now it seems like there is no power to ignition switch. Lights will not come on and with key off park lights...

check your battery terminals are clean and tight check all connections. charge battery to see if it may not be charging.Check your fuses possibly blown fuses. check power wire from battery to starter is tight clean. check negative from battery to engine make sure it is clean and tight on engine or where ever it may be run to such as chassis.

Not sure if the fuses are in the right place and running lights do not work on '88 toyota pickup

Hi there,
You'll find one fuse box under the bonnet (hood) and another next set on the kick panel inside the cabin....The running lights (Park / marker light also operate the instrument panel lights....The covers of both boxes have directories inside....The one you're interested in is the one inside the cabin....

1990 toyota pickup with 22re engine and 235000 miles failed smog in cali.,not because of emissions but because timing was at 30 degrees instead of 10. It starts and runs well. I have not adjusted timing ....

Reset the engine timing by first jumping pins E1 and Te1 in the grey box under the hood. If the truck runs poorly set to proper timing, your timing chain has jumped a tooth. Does it rattle bad at idle? Id so, the guides are worn out, and the chain is stretched.

81 toyota pick-up. No spark

Check to make sure the main fuse is good. Sometimes those blow when you short out a wire from the battery to the ground on the car *like when an alternators live wire hits ground on the car.
On a 1981 Toyota pickup, im unsure of where it is located, but sometimes they are located in the fuse box, as a big fuse usually a 100 amp or 80amp fuse.. Sometimes they are located along a ground connected to the engine and the frame of the car. This could make it just crank and not start.
Check also to make sure that the engine is grounded, by taking a test light and connecting it to the positive side of the battery, and testing the metal around the motor. Sometimes grounds can break, or when shorted out they can melt. If the motor is not grounded then it will not start. and will just crank.
Hope this helps a little - Jarett

Fuel pump wont run and keep blowing a fuse in the front fuse box

The power wire to your fuel pump must be shorting out somewhere. Disconnect it and see if your fuse still blows. If not, then follow the wire all the way back to the fuel pump, and look for a bare spot. Good luck!

Upgrading 4 to 6 cyclinders in '81 Toyota 4WD pickup?

yes it is possible, but very involved. Personally I would buy a donor Toyota pickup that has a V6 in it. U-hual had a lot of those. It was the really small box truck.

You will need everything basically, the harness, the computer, and anything specific to that engine. Would make it a whole lot easier if you had the donor truck right there.

Oh, and by the way, it is a very tight fit.
