Question about Ford Cars & Trucks

I have a 1998 Ford F-150. It will not start. Battery seems to be ok. Lights, radio, and horn works well. Had alternator changed about 3 years ago. Thinking that the starter may be the trouble.

Check starter relay ,Right rear of engine compartment .Test for B+ voltage on the small wire while some one tries starting the vehicle . If there isn't B+ voltage there Check park neutral switch . You could jump B+ voltage to the termanial the small wire connects to .If starter is good it would crank the engine .

Good answer Jeff. This does need checked. But just jump the big leads on the relay to check the starter.

Sounds like a dead cell in the battery. Fully charge it with an external charger with it disconnected from vehicle. Take it to a parts store to have it checked with the load system.

I have a Buick Regal 98 car that want say anything when starting, and the head lights, radio, horn and windows not working.

No radio, no lights, no start = dead battery. Even with key off, lights should come on if battery isn't dead

Take your battery somewhere and have it load tested. If it tests good it has to be your starter. The alternator has to be working or you would have a dead battery all the time. Unless you are putting it on a charger or jumping it.

1. my radio just stopped working, it used to go on and off depending on the dots in the road or a big bump but now there is nothing, the fuses are ok too. 2. the horn does not work at all, fuses are ok...

it sounds like the plug in the back of the radio has come loose. remove radio and check connection. as far as the horn PULL THE WIRE FROM THE HORN UNDER THE HOOD THEN RUN A TEST LEAD FROM THE + SIDE OF YOUR BATTERY TO THE HORN IF IT HONKS REPLACE THE HORN RELAY IF NOT REPLACE THE HORN. GOOD LUCK

'88 ford F-150 4x4. have no head, paking, or inter. lights. no horn, cig. lighter, and no memory on radio. all of this just comes and goes as it pleases.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Common cause of this issue is a faulty battery or a loosen battery connector and a faulty alternator. If the battery is faulty it tends to fail when the car is parked. It may drain while it sit which can cause to electrical failure. Try to tighten the battery connectors too.

A faulty alternator can cause the lights and other electrical accessories fail too. If the alternator fails to cycle the discharge energy the electrical accessories may not work so you will need a replacement.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! have a good one!

94 ford taurus ignition switch will not do anything does not start or turn engine over i checked fuses under hood they were ok battery seems to be ok had charger on it

sounds like a bad starter,if the dash lights--radio--wipers work then most likely the starter went bad.A few years ago i had one and the starter cost then about $90.00

1998 windstar van: charging system light goes

It could mean the alternator has gone bad already... with the car off, the battery leads should read 11-12V.. with the car on, the battery should read 13-14V.. if it's lower then it's not charging your battery and if it's higher, it's damaging your battery....

The car will not start

replace your battery. Even when a battery is dead it will still have enough juice to operate smal things like the horn and radio, but not enough juice to start the car. If the battery is dead you should still be able to jump start it and take it to autozone and they can check it along with the alternator at the same time.
