1 Answer

1989 jeep wrangler has been stored for 2 years

The jeep belonged to my daughter and her not very mecchanicaly minded husbund was sure it had blown up. I can get it to run if I pump the gas pedal frantically and keep the rpm's up but just as soon as I stop pumping it dies. HELP.

Do a compression test on the engine this will tell you if the hrad needs to be removed to see if the head gasket is blown, or the head is warped or a piston has a hole in it

1989 wrangler 4.2 litre engine wont idle

my 1989 jeep wrangler would not idle and come to find out it was a little filter cloth inside the fuel tank that was on the end of the pickup tube going to the fuel filter. It was clogged up and when the engine was started it would just suck in and cut off fuel flow. My mechanic removed the filter cloth from the tube and the jeep runs great. It really does not need to be there because the fuel line has a filter on it. I hope this helps , I know for me it was very frustrating trying to figure this problem out.

I have a 1989 jeep yj. 6 cyl 5 speed 4x4. the batterie and alternator wouldnt charge so i replaced them both and it didnt make a difference. the jeep runs until the batterie dies. help

Have you checked to see whether the battery lamp illuminates with the key on only. If not then the fuse to is blown or that wiring to the field circuit is faulty.
Did you replace the parts with new ones?? You did not state.
No battery warning lamp no charge simple.

How to remove and clean carburettor on 1989 jeep wrangler?

Your parts store will sell you a carb rebuild kit for $15-25 that will have complete instructions. However, if you have questions about how to remove the carb, I'd guess that you are not ready to rebuild one.

Just did a cylinder compression test on a 1989 jeep wrangler 2.5l the numbers I got are bad. what do you guys think? 1. 40psi 2. 0psi 3. 65psi 4. 55psi

0 psi and you have to ask? There is something terribly wrong in the second cylinder, you will have to at least remove the head to find out what.

1989 jeep wrangler starts jumping and backfiring

Start with the basics...meaning check the spark plug wires and spark plugs. While under the hood, inspect all hoses for a vacuum leak(s). Then turn the ignition key on-off-on-off- on...leave in the on position and write down the number of flashes the check engine light indicates....2 flashes = #2....pause.....3 flashes = #3.
Let start from here. Are you able to perform engine repairs or diagnostics???

Bring the vin code to a dealer and they can tell you. The .2 dosen't mean much unless you are changing pistons or connecting rods.

1989 jeep wrangler what are the vacuum lines going to my front axle?

Vacuum lines at front axle are part of your 4x4 control system. When changing oil or doing anything under the vehicle, always good to take a look at them and make sure they are secure, and in good shape. This eliminates problems while on the road.
