SOURCE: 1992 Ford F350 Dually Diesel Truck Brake System problem.

Adjust your rear brake shoes. Then rebleed the system. Start at the master cylinder Bleed master first then the wheel furthest away from the master (right rear then left rear then right front then left front. Do that and your pedal should be good.

Tools Required

j 21177-A Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage

Park Brake Shoe Adjustment

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution.

Important: The park brake shoes must be adjusted before the park brake cable tension is adjusted.Set the J 21177-A so it contacts the inside diameter of the rotor

  1. Position the J 21177-A over the shoe and the lining at the widest point.
  2. Turn the adjuster nut until the lining just contacts the J 21177-A. Park brake shoe to brake rotor clearance: 0.6604 mm (0.026 in)
  3. Repeat steps 1-3 for the opposite side.
Park Brake Cable Tension Adjustment

Important: Before you adjust the park brake cable tension, verify that the park brake shoes are adjusted to provide a clearance of 0.6604 mm (0.026 in) and the rear disc brake rotors are installed.

  1. Verify the self adjuster lock-out pin has been removed.
  2. Fully apply and release the park brake pedal 3 times.

I had the same problem on my 2003. Open the driver door all the way. Get on your knees just outside the door. Follow the plastic tub that holds the parking brake release cable inside the truck. Start from the release lever and follow to the end of the tube. There will be a metal lever that the cable was attached to before it broke. You have to pull that lever with your hand to release the parking brake. Very Important!!!...Hold the parking brake activation pedal with your other hand when you release the brake. Let the pedal out slowly when you pull the metal release lever. The pedal will come back very fast and you could injure yourself if you are not careful. Good luck!

if you didn't bleed the lines after putting the master in. then there is a good chance there is air in the lines now. may go through a quart of brake fluid before all the air is out. remember to start at r-rear/ l-rear/ r-front/ l-front last.will take some time. don't forget to adjust the rear brake while your there to help with the pedal

Same thing happened to me on my 2000 silverado July 3, 2009.
There is a release next to the parking brake pedal. You have to reach way under the dash but it has worked for me for the last month. I have the part to fix it but haven't had the time.

Dear Richard.
I cannot answer your specific question, but your very good description of a symptom has raised a big red flag with me.
(I began my car & truck repair in 1960).
Your last sentence says to me: Because of the problem with you driving the truck and finding it necessary to do an emergency brake application, please do not drive the truck anymore until it is repaired, even to the point of having it towed to a Ford dealer.
It sounds like an electronic issue that is locking the left front wheel.

How do I bleed a slave cylinder to a 93 Cheverlet 1500 series 4 wheel drive truck

Much like bleeding brakes. There's a bleed screw on the cylinder. Have a helper push the clutch pedal down while you release air form the bleeder screw. Watch the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. You can get 2 good pushes on the clutch pedal before adding more fluid.

I want to know what size trani came in a Chevy one ton with a stock 454

"Big Dooley" it was called back then....
the transmission, has a side plate that tells ALL.
look there, (will need serious cleaning from 1983 to now)
GM matches, tranny to engine power and torque max.
they have M/T and A/T tranny. 4speed Muncie, (my first love) m20

The one-ton model designation was the C or K 30 for GMC and 3500 for Chevrolet.(wiki quote, sure read the wiki on you truck first)

1985 international truck brakes drag and wont release totally

Test to see if the brake pressure is being released at the wheels. First pump pedal several times are the wheels locked then open bleeder screw if fluid squirts out the fluid is not returning to the master cylinder then do this again this time release pressure at master cylinder wheels move then the master cylinder residual check valve has failed (need a master cylinder) if not then the flex hoses are restricted

Press on brakes they go to the floor with little or no pressure

Sounds like a fluid Hydraulic leak in the brake system.
DO NOT DRIVE !!!!! this Truck.
TOW your vehicle to your service repair shop for futher inspection.
Possible problems can be -rusted brake lines, leaking calipers or wheel cylinders, leaking master cylinder...

be- safe -tow the truck to your mechanic

This evening my 2001 GMC Sonoma was in 4-wheel drive. As I was backing out of a parking spot, I heard a clunk and had no brakes. I continued to back up with no brakes and then finally felt my brakes coming...

I would not drive that truck 1 more foot until that brake situation is rectified! No the 4 wheel drive cannnot make the brakes go out, they are 2 seperate systems entirely and have aero to do with the other as far as operation. This is a very dangerous condition and needs to be fixed BEFORE you ever drive it again! Brakes go out , dual reservoir master cylinders have a less likelihood of total failure than the old single reservoir types, so you should of had 2 wheels diagonally enen if a brake system failure has occured! better fix this one and before you drive it anywhere!! You could die and or kill someone!

Bleeding Brakes on a 2001 Silverado Z71


When bleeding brakes after the system has been opened for service (you didn't say if you were doing any work on the master cylinder) you should start with the farthest wheel away from the master cylinder, which is the righ rear. Fill the master cylinder, then have an assitant "pump up" the brake pedal. Tell them to hold it down firmly, then open the bleeder on the wheel cylinder(s). Do not release the brake pedal until you have closed the bleeder valve again. You'll know when the air is out - there won't be any more bubbles. Since this vehicle is 2001, this would be a great opportunity to flush the system. Just make sure you have enough brake fluid (DOT 3 or 4, depending on your vehicle). Good luck!
