My decoder reboots every 30 minutes. Is there a self fix solution or must I take the decoder in to M C Agency for checking Stays in Simon's Town, W Cape if so where is the nearest M C Service branch?

The van is a automation and will not shift pass second gear.

A scanner will show you. Codes will tell you. Or pull them and test them with am Ohm meter. Could be the solenoid pack also. If you transmission leaks. When it gets to low, it will suck air. This will also cause your van to go into limp mode. Start the van and check transmission fluid first. Fill as necessary. Turn it off and disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. This will clear the computer. Drive it. If it stays out of limp mode. Fix the leaks and/or keep it filled. Those sensors run around $20 a piece. The solenoid pack can be around $200+ Don't buy a good used one.

The problem is usually that the dash cluster itself is failing. You can try rebooting it... disconnect the car battery, leave it disconnected for 30 minutes, than reconnect. If that doesn't work, than you need to find a company that repairs that kind of thing.

Take it to Autozone and let them check it to see what code shows up. They wont clear it for you, but you can do it your self by disconnecting the negitive battery cable and reconnect it after 30 minutes.

2001 grand prix v6 check engine light stays on

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for at least 30 minutes? This is sometimes the case and the computer just needs to reboot. If that doesn't work, your o2 sensor has probably gone bad. Its not an expensive fix. Leaving the check engine light on puts the computer into a setting called "limp mode". Limp mode is a safety to prevent damage to your vehicle. In this case the computer thinks there is something wrong and by going into limp mode tends to give you less gas mileage and less power performance as well.

Start with the simple fixes first; Try a new fuel filter. Then a new pcv valve. Both are very cheap & you can probably install them yourself.
