Re: wiring diagrm for egr valve 2009 jeep wrangler 3.8
JK jeep, i have 08 and full docs.
it wires to the PCM, same wire colors
as you can see drawing dont work right in fixya.
they get "crunched" badly"
the EGR is PWM modulated,
first is to clean in. the exhaust path must be good
the EGR must not stick closed or open.
p0405 means the pin on sensor part is stuck low.
tell me in most cases, the valve is stuck closed.
clean it is best first action.
the monitor pin is at X, this tells the PCM where the EGR moved
per PCM command. (called feedback) yours is hardwiring diagrm for egr valve 2009 jeep wrangler 3.8 - 26404471-dlj153dynqe1qkaeryvrbplc-3-3.jpgt/uploads/images/26404471-dlj153dynqe1qkaeryvrbplc-3-3.jpg" alt="26404471-dlj153dynqe1qkaeryvrbplc-3-3.jpg" class="h_mi" />

Code 122 is for a low signal coming from the TPS. Since you have replaced the sensor, the problem may be in the wiring harness. The signal would need to be checked. Code 405 is also a low signal coming from the EGR valve. Same thing, you need to check the signal with a scanner or volt meter. And when the computer is not getting an acceptable reading from the TPS it uses a known good signal to bypass the sensor which will cause the idle speed and shifting problems. The computer does not know when you open the throttle.
I too have had the warning on the dash indicating: "GAS CAP". It is a generic code for anything to do with the fuel cap, filler hose, or overflow, including the charcoal cannister evaporative recovery system. Sometimes it is an easy fix, to simply replace the gas cap. If people consistently twist the cap past the point where it clicks, after closing = it can wear out the cap, and prevent a good seal. However, a large majority of people have overfilled their tank too many times and the evaporative cannister is full and the overflow line is clogged or kinked. Start with the cheap solution first, gas cap.
My problem started after running the extreme obstacle course at Daytona Beach Jeep Beach 2013 at which point I pulled the cannister off the bottom and had to replace it. There are no skid plates protecting it and it would be easy for sticks etc. to get jammed up in and around that cannister while even mildly off road. Crawl under and follow the filler hose down from the passenger rear of the vehicle. The charcoal cannister is approx the size of 2 loaves of bread and sits just forward of the axle, next to the drive shaft.
The throttle body is coated with a sludge resistant material. If you cleaned it all out you are actually hurting your engines performance, because the throttle body resists sludge which in turn protects your throttle plate and bore. You may want to check your egr vacuum regulator, for the cause of your problem.
In the top picture you can see egr adapter, three bolts, the egr valve mounts to adapter. Hope the picture gives you some orientation? You can see the 5 wire connector and wire colors. The bottom picture should be the egr valve.
You have two options to fix this error code. One, obviously, you can replace the EGR valve. If you do this, just reset the codes and you should be good to go. Two, you can remove the EGR valve and clean the carbon build up out of it. You can do this with throttle body cleaner and just make sure to let it dry out before you put it back on. You need to make sure that the valve (diaphram) is moving freely after you clean it. If it isn't, you are going to need to replace the EGR valve. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
Hi. This code has come up for two possible reasons. the actual new egr valve has become clogged by the increasing amount of carbon that has built up in the intake manifold. when replacing th egr valve, its a good rule of thumb to use a cleaning solution to cleanse the hole that the egr valve is inserted in. make sure you clean it thoroughly inside as well. This method is good but, it dosen't always work so, the next level of cleaning the intake is to remove it and clean it manually. the next possible issue could be that the wire connectors are worn. this is highly unusual but, it may be the issue here.
2005 dodge caravan po404 and po405 , changed egr valve an had only po405. now listen heres the punch line disconnect the battery and touch the cables together to drain the capacitors for 30 secs.reconnect an BAM po405 is gone if it dont work ill give you your money back.
egr valve replaced and check engine light comes back on with p0405-check wiring at connector-if ok try performing at battery static discharge-disconnect both battery cable ends-and touch cables together-this discharges all ecu capacitors and resets adaptive memory
