it is in shop now and I haven't been notified yet as to what they have checked other than they have said it returned no codes and two days after it died and would not remain started (started and idled rough and died repeatedly..I was thinking o2 sensor etc at time or some valve) they were able to start and run with no problem, I explained that this was my problem, one day it runs the next I am stranded or worse, my wife and 3 children are stranded on a road in kc....the cam sensor is out of my league I can recommend that they check it but I am baffled that there is absolutely nothing being registered on the ecm or computer module since it dies all the time and when it does idles terribly and wont remain started when you restart, that has to be sending something to the computer????

very interesting, do you have any thoughts on crank and cam sensor as the cause???

Do you know if they've tested crank sensor? I know you want answers but I need to ask, as I don't see anything from others that was asked already.

The comment about engine quitting at stop & corners changes directions and I'd go to "Idle Air Control Valve". Pull it off & clean it well & port it comes out of with throttlebody spray cleaner , re-install & try it. If it cures it for a while & then starts to do it again, replace it.

That's another reason I am leaning toward "idle air control valve". Very common on every manufacturer that they will run like that & not store a code. I've done & advised with pretty good success, just what I described about cleaning it first, becuase it's immediately obvious if it was the problem. This valve when it gets dirty, will cause stalling, especially under load, as in turning, stopped with brakes on obviously, AC on, and it can happen just by letting off the gas when driving. That's why the restart as well, after.
Best part is your only out $5 for cleaner and about 20 minutes to do it.

One or the other could come in to play here, I'd go crank sensor first if any, but believe me, those 2 things can both be tested to some degree even though not always 100%, with a good meter before deciding if they need replacing. If the techs where your vehicle is, don't know how, then I'd be looking for another shop real quick. Even a trip to a Ford dealer might pay off, as they better know how to do it !
Still, even if you want to take it home and try idle air control, I could guide you through doing it yourself if your mechanically inclined at all. It's really simple.

Replace the lowest cost part first.....fuel filter. If this does not solve the problem then its more than likely your fuel pump.
