That's a 6 gallon capacity system. (4 quarts to a gallon, 23.6 divided by 4 = just under 6 gallon.)
You would need 3 gallons of antifreeze to make a 50/50 solution of antifreeze and water. that's a standard solution, an all around best solution. Also recommended that you use distilled water to reduce corrosion.

23 quarts is nearly 6 gallons which is a big cooling system so I guess it belongs to a commercial vehicle or PSV.

The minimum safe antifreeze solution is 25% but this gives only drive away protection for a few degrees of frost and the windchill factor can still freeze the radiator if the engine isn't thoroughly warmed before driving away.

Practically speaking a 33.3% solution is reckoned to provide the minimum protection as the coolant will turn to a semi-solid mush under very low temperatures and limit the possible expansion damage. It should be possible to start the engine. No freezing is likely to take place in most frosts experienced by the temperate regions.

A 50% solution is reckoned to be the minimum for good frost protection and makes best use of the antifreeze's anti-corrosion additives as well as providing a good summer coolant.

A 60% solution is reckoned to provide comprehensive protection.

Can you drive a car with just water And antifreeze in it ????

Presumably you are referring only to the cooling system on your car.
You would normally mix the antifreeze with water before topping up. Your car hand book should tell you the % of antifreeze to add to the water based upon the lowest air temperature that occurs in the place you live.
In colder climates you need a higher amount of antifreeze in the water.
The cooling system is there only to help keep the engine cool when you are driving.

What type of antifreeze can i use?

if you are just adding antifreeze to the cooling system you are safe to use a 50/50 mix that you can get at any auto part store. if you are adding antifreeze to the system after doing a repair ( empty system ) then you will want to get a full ( 100% ) strength antifreeze and add water to it to the correct water/antifreeze ratio depending on the air temp of the area of the world you live in.

How much antifreeze should i put in radiator after a flush

sytem capacity is 8.6 qts. you want a 50/50 solution, so drain alittle more than a gallon of the straight water out, and add 4.3 qts. of dexcool antifreeze or equivalent. i always go slightly stronger just to be sure, but not too much antifreeze as it doesn't work straight. no more than 4.5 qts.

How do I change a thermostat in a 2001 New Beatle VW

First you should drain the antifreez by opening the drain plug located by the lower radiator hose. Then take the upper radiator hose off. Then take the 2 bolts out that hold the housing on. Remove the housng and there is your thermastat. Accordind to VW they want you to put antifreeze on the o-ring I use RTV a little extra help sealing just don't put a lot on. The book says to put thermastat in housing and turn 1/4 turn to right. I'm not sure why but thats what it says. TIP If you close the drain plug now and put as much antifreeze in as you can makes it easyer to get air pockets out later. Mount your therrmostast housing back to block and tighten bolts. Again put as much antifreeze in that you can them put upper radiator hose back on. Again put as much antifreeze in that you can. Now come the hard part sometimes getting all the air out of the cooling system. Put the radiator cap on but loose run the engine till the cooling fan kicks on but keep checking the coolant level. WARNING ANTIFREEZE WILL GET ABOVE 200 DEGREES
both upper and lower radiator hoses should be hot and radiator full. If both hoses aren't hot you have an air pocket that you have to get out. To do this run the engine a couple minutes after the fan kicks on then turn engine off for 5 or 10 minutes and start over keep doing this till both hoses get hot and the air the fan is blowing is hot. Once this is doe yout ready to go. I hose off any antifreeze that got one car so if you see antifreeze under car you know something is leaking and not what was spilled. 254a047.pnga06a9b1.png

What type of coolant to put in

50/50 antifreeze and water. pontiac or GM recommends the use of Dex cool antifreeze but it really doesnt matter. You have to check the color of the coolant orange you need to use extended life, if its green just use regular 50/50

What type of coolant should be put into the engine coolant cylinder

Coolant recommendations and cautions:

The recommended mixture is 50/50 ethylene-glycol and low mineral content water. Never use pure antifreeze. Only Mopar Antifreeze Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (glycol base coolant with corrosion inhibitors called HOAT) is recommended. This coolant offers the best engine cooling without corrosion when mixed with 50% distilled water.

Antifreeze mixture must always be at least 44%, all climates year round. Maximum protection (-90d) is provided with a 68% mixture protection. If the percentage is lower than 44 percent, engine parts may be eroded by cavitation, and cooling system components may be severely damaged by corrosion.

CAUTION: Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (MS-9769) may not be mixed with any other type of antifreeze. Mixing of coolants other than specified (non-HOAT or other HOAT), may result in engine damage that may not be covered under the new vehicle warranty, and decreased corrosion protection.

CAUTION: Do not use coolant additives that are claimed to improve engine cooling.

Where is the thermostat sensor

Both the 4.0L and 4.7L engines use 195 thermostats for all model years from 1999-2004. When replacing a thermostat it is very important to install one with the same temperature rating (the only exception might be with certain performance modifications or chips that recommend or require a different temperature thermostat).

4.0L engine - Draining the cooling system WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE CYLINDER BLOCK DRAIN PLUGS OR LOOSEN THE RADIATOR DRAINCOCK WITH SYSTEM HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE. SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN OCCUR.

1. DO NOT remove radiator cap first. With engine cold, locate radiator draincock on the right lower side of radiator facing to rear of vehicle.
2. Attach one end of a hose to the draincock. Put the other end into a clean container. Open draincock and drain coolant from radiator. This will empty the coolant reserve/overflow tank. The coolant does not have to be removed from the tank unless the system is being refilled with a fresh mixture. When tank is empty, remove radiator cap and continue draining cooling system. To drain the engine block of coolant, remove the cylinder block drain plug, located on the side of cylinder block below the exhaust manifold.

4.0L engine - refilling the cooling system Coolant recommendations and cautions: The recommended mixture is 50/50 ethylene-glycol and low mineral content water. Never use pure antifreeze. 1. Tighten the radiator draincock and the cylinder block drain plug(s) (if removed).
2. Fill system using a 50/50 mixture of ethyleneglycol antifreeze and low mineral content water. Fill radiator to top and install radiator cap. Add sufficient coolant to the reserve/overflow tank to raise level to FULL mark.
3. With heater control unit in the HEAT position, operate engine with radiator cap in place.
4. After engine has reached normal operating temperature, shut engine off and allow it to cool. When engine is cooling down, coolant will be drawn into the radiator from the reserve/overflow tank.
5. Add coolant to reserve/overflow tank as necessary. Only add coolant to the reserve/overflow tank when the engine is cold. Coolant level in a warm engine will be higher due to thermal expansion. To purge the cooling system of all air, this heat up/cool down cycle (adding coolant to cold engine) must be performed three times. Add necessary coolant to raise tank level to the FULL mark after each cool down period.

For more details, you can refer to the Jeep WJ Service Manual Section-07-Cooling-System-Ewj7

Hope helped.

Transmission fluid

If your vehicle has the 5.2 liter, aka 318 cubic inch engine, there is only one transmission model applicable and it is the 42 RE which used to be designated the A500.It is a 4speed overdrive transmission. If installing a rebuilt trans and new remanufactured dry torque convertor. You add 4 quarts initially, then fire the engine and add another 5-6 quarts for a total capacity of 9-10 quarts.Fluid level is checked with the trans in Neutral. If you are only dropping the pan,you will replace roughly 4 quarts. The transfer case fills separately, but uses the same automatic transmission fluid.Capacity for the transfer case is about 2 quarts/fill to the bottom of the fill plug hole.Good luck.
