DTC P0172: Bank 1 system too rich.
1. Fuel pressure. Check pump, regulator, filter, and lines
2. Vacuum leaks, damaged hoses, or incorrect routing
3. Air filter or intake restrictions
4. Faulty fuel injector(s)

Firs thing is you need to get a spring compressor and working with one of these tools is dangerous. If it is not secured right the spring can expand and fly right through the car or you. after you have installed the spring compresser and locked it down. you can remove all the attaching parts to remove the strut. If you have any doubts you may be better off taking it to a tech so that the job is warranteed.

SOURCE: 2004 Saturn Ion transmission
It should be on the drivers side and it looks like the oil dipstick. Usually the top of the handle is shaped like a " T ". Most of the time it will be yellow and say trans on it. It may be lower than the oil dipstick. Good luck.
