Whining noises in the steering column

HI. There are many issues that can cause these noises that you are experiencing. the power steering pump could be running low on fluid and the steering shaft and assembly could have major trauma due to rough or hard driving. The most common situation would be power steering failure. I would also check the entire steering rack as well. you could have a ball and scokel joint that is bad. they usually will make the same noise during a hard right or leaft turn. The steering column coupling can become damaged during rough diving as well. here are a list of steering componets you should check.

Power steering fluid leaking

It all depends on where the fluid is coming from. It could be a ruptured pressure hose, or a seal in the power steering pump. The 2 "dangers " are NO POWER STEERING and burning out the pump with no fluid. A short drive for repairs using " ARMSTRONG " will probably do no harm. Hope this helps

2001 gmc sierra 1500 5.3 power steering does not work after doing dounuts.

lol I shouldnt laugh at you but its funny to me because my Girlfriend just did this same exact thing with her Envoy lol well i helped her a little bit. well what it did to the envoy was since it was spinning in circles for so long at a good speed it actually got air in the power steering system and the system had to be bled of the air. the reason the air got in was because of t g-force on the fluid. the fluid actually got a way from the pump and the rack. lol just get your steering system bled. and it should be fine. Ps i am not aloud to drive the envoy anymore.
hope this helps you out. because it threw me for a loop also when it happened

Low power steering fluid

if the fluid is low it will cause the noise if it is low there is a leak and could have got air in system and cause noise and possibley cause damage to pump and gear box
