Having the vehicle checked for codes should have been the first thing done . Security light on ,a code is stored in the control module that controls the anti-theft system ! This is if you want it fixed right !
Important: If the wrong ignition key is used in an attempt to start the vehicle, a Data Trouble Code (DTC) will be set and the Body Control Module (BCM) will not send a fuel enable or starter enable message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for three minutes even if the correct ignition is used.
The Pass-Key II® Theft Deterrent system prevents vehicle theft by disabling the starter motor and fuel system. If the Body Control Module (BCM) dose not identify the use of the correct ignition key to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will communicate a message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which will disable the crank relay and fuel delivery to the engine.
When the (BCM) identifies the use of the correct ignition key (resistor pellet) to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will send a fuel enable and starter enable message to the (PCM) which will allow the vehicle to start.

DTC B2957 Security System Sensor Data Circuit Low
DTC B2958 Security System Sensor Data Circuit High
DTC B2960 Sec Sys Sensor Data Incorrect but Valid
DTC B3031 Security System Controller in Learn Mode
DTC B3094 No Response from ECM/PCM Received

or you can do a by pass that may or may not work ! You could measure the resistance of the pellet on the side of the key , then go to radio shack a by a resistor of the same value ! Then find the wires under the dash that come from the ignition switch ! Solder the resistor into the harness side wires , not going back to ignition switch . The wires break or contacts inside ignition switch do . You could check resistance with ohm meter . Put key into the ignition switch , find those wires i said about before . Check resistance at the wires under dash , is it the same resistance as pellet ?

I just notice that the new key i bought doesnt have a slot for a chip and the old key does can that have somethong to do with it ?

  • Jeff Armer Dec 17, 2016

Yes it can ! thats the whole reason .The resistance of the chip is programmed into the BCM ! And it's not seeing it , won't start ! You need the orginal key !

SOURCE: how to replace a coolant level sensor, 2000 buick century

The coolant level sensor is located on the radiator. If you are looking at the engine from the front of the car it will be on the left side. There will some kind of clip holding it in the radiator. Removed the clip and pull the sensor out. You will lose coolant so try to swap it out quick or drain some of the coolant out. Once new sensor is installed, install clip to keep the sensor in place and reconnect the wires to the sensor. Crank the engine and make sure the coolant level is full. This should correct your problem.

SOURCE: odometer light out on buick century not working

Sadly no, there is no fuse or bulb to replace. You either have to send the instrument cluster out for repair or replace it with a new unit from the dealer. You could also obtain a serviceable one from a salvage yard. Most shops should be able to replace the instrument cluster or advise who can repair it.

Is there anyway to bypass the security on a buick century 3.1 2000

In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other.
The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, or not seen at all. When the communication breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. (like it thinks it's being hot wired) The car shuts down because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. It will either turn off the starter, or the fuel injectors. The vehicle may run for 2-3 seconds before shutting down. This link explains it pretty well.

Buick century security light stays on

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

My security check light is on

It means the security (VATS) system does not "see" the chip in your key. You may be trying to steal the car with a phony key.
The problem could be the chip in the key, the sensor in the lock cylinder, or the VATS module.
It may become unable to crank.
