go to mortec.com it will tell you everything about chev heads the # on the front of the heads is serial # and where it was manufactured

stamp= f 0412dbuilt in flint (mi)plant 0n april 12 an the casting number 3789935 from a chevy ll built in 1960-1961 its a 283 low horse power 170 high horsepower 220 and its a 2 bolt main have fun with it

the block casting when you are looking at the rear of the engine would be where the bellhousing bolts to the engine on the top-left side of the engine, the head casting should be on the left side head when looking from the back torwards the middle-bottom,and the crank cast should be behind the flywheel on the engine
