Sounds like you either have a blown head gasket, cracked head, craked cylinder wall or if equipped a faulty oil cooler. You can try to replace the head gasket and hope that fixes the problem.

Since you have done the basics, more information is needed. Under what conditions does it overheat, and how severely? Only when at idle for several minutes? Could be bad fan clutch or missing/damaged fan shroud. Severely overheats so bad you can't drive it at all? Blown head gasket? You can often diagnosis this by running with radiator cap removed and see bubbles in the radiator, or also look for water in oil, or oil in the coolant. Also, check with parts store. I think certain years of these run a reverse direction water pump, and if you get the wrong one they will overheat badly.

If the radiator is 15 years old, replace it

The newer radiators are much better than years ago

Install a new thermostat,rad hoses,heater hose

Also new spark plugs, if over 3 years old & front O2
Sensors, if over 100,000 miles.

The Exhaust Converter, if over 15 years old

It all adds up to cause your overheating

Use Synthetic Oil in the engine

Change Power Steering & Trans Fluids

Hose down the A/C Condenser when the radiator is out

Oil light comes on and then car overheats


i just had changed the oil in my wifes 2.7 2000 260,000 mile concord.
i got a very unhappy phone call about oil light on and over heating .
shop wanted $750 to fix . i drove it home no light till about 15 minutes into drive. checked oil it didn't even regester .waited a few minutes oil was back. ended up being the pcv valve was pluged and line to it had
rotted off . it was holding the oil in the valve cover and causing it to leak
around plugs and burn oil . cost of fix $20. i used a radiator bypass hose and a new pcv valve . works great .still burns quart of oil every 1,000 miles because of milage .i hope this info will be useful to you.

1993 Honda Civic rapid heating


Sounds like your electric cooling fan(behind the radiator) is not functioning. The thermostat might not be working,making the fan
not come on at all. I once put a toggle switch in my dash,when I had
an old CRX, just to turn on the fan, or it would overheat.

Going thru coolant like crazy but theres no leak. we done so much so far. we put a water pump in and a therpasat in and sencer in and intake gaskets


Well first off, since you have replaced many parts, perhaps you have air in the system. Also check the oil to see if it looks like chocolate milk or is extremely high (indicating a blown head gasket).
While system is cold, add coolant to the radiator (if applicable) and the coolant tank. Then start the vehicle and turn the heater on high heat - full blast. Let run for 15 minutes or until the engine begins to overheat or the coolant tank become empty. Let the vehicle cool down (30 minutes) then repeat until it coolant level doesn't drop or engine doesn't overheat.
Now go for a test drive for about 10 - 15 miles make sure to take hills and highway/freeway. Let vehicle cool down and recheck coolant tank and radiator. If level has gone down then something is wrong. Perhaps the thermostat is in backwards.

Car Overheats after 12 to 15 minutes of running. Temperature decreaes when I accelerate.


your fan is the problem...it's not turning fast enough to cool the engine off. I need more info on what type of fan you have....elec fan or a clutch fan?

Oil in radiator, car did not overheat


The oil cooler tank on the side of the radiator has cracked and allowed oil into the cooling system. Replace the radiator and you will need to flush the cooling system A LOT. and be careful driving it for a while, the mixture can take a long time to clear out of the head which can cause it to overheat.

1990 Subaru Liberty Overheats


Hi,

I had the same problem with my 1993 Liberty LX. Remove the thermostat (located inside bottom radiator hose engine connection - take the connection off and thermostat is inside). Reassemble (minus thermostat), reconnect bottom hose. Slowly (very, very slowly) refill the radiator and remove the bleed plug ( located beside the top hose connection to the radiator - a black square plug with a phillips head cross in the middle). When the radiator is full and clear water (no air bubbles) is coming out of the bleed point, replace the bleed plug and then the radiator cap.

Run the engine for five minutes (approx) or until normal engine temperature is reached. Allow the engine to cool down and recheck the water level - fill if necessary ensuring that the bleed plug is open and clear water is coming out of that point. Replace Bleed plug and then radiator cap. Run engine for five minutes (approx) and then test dive. If the engine overheats keep filling the radiator until there are no air bubbles coming from out of the bleed point.

This fixed my overheating problem. Good luck and safe motoring.
