Check coolant level is not to low could also have air lock in cooling system if all seems ok check coolant pump

hi this sounds like the elec operated coolant control valve has failed? common fault on ford models however to confirm this? if you warm engine to normal then turn temp setting to full hot do not put fan on yet! locate the heater hoses from engine to point they go into bulkhead of engine bay? feel each hose for heat ? if one is warm/hot and other much cooler/cold ? then cooler valve is not opening so coolant can flow thro heater matrix inside car understand?? unfortunate;y this valve is not servicable but is easy to change and not too expensive ? its location is normally at point prior to entering car interior and you will find it if you follow heater hoses? it may well be in bay below the grill below w/screen is normally plastic renewal will be apparent when you see it ? hope this helps ? just one point all above is on assumption you have checked radiator coolant level is topped up ?? if not this will also give no heat thro heater ? if very low

did you check the fluid level by removing the rad. cap? Radiator should be full to top. If Chryslers are low on coolant, the heater will not blow warm air.

First when vehicle is cold like in the morning check and make sure that the vehicle has enough coolant/ antifreeze in radiator and reservoir. If coolant is need use a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. You will need some time to do this let car run at idle until the temp guage is in the middle NOT+ normal operating temperature. At this point if the thermostat should be in the open position. Let vehicle run and check to make sure that radiator fan comes on. This should come on when guage is about midway/half way. If temperature rises above half going to h/hot and fan doesn't come on, you either have a BAD FAN BAD FAN SWITCH BAD FAN RELAY OR BLOWN FAN SWITCH FUSE. You will need to check all of the following I will help if its needed. If fan comes on and doesn't go off and vehicle continues to get hot even with fan running. Feel radiator hoses and see if the lower radiator hose is cool/cold. If it is you have thermostat that stuck closed. Replace thermostat and fix problem. If all the above is good and vehicle continues to over heat. THE BAD NEW IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET /CRACKED HEAD /BROKEN WATER JACKET. Basically you will need a HEAD JOB at least a head gasket. ONe tell tail sign of this is oil looking like milkshake/chocolate milk-a creamish while residue in oil or antifreeze. Sounds like you might have an air pocket in the cooling system. This can develop, usually after a service, where the cooling system has to be opened to replace a water pump, thermostat, or other reason. When refilled, the air displaced by coolant has to go somewhere. In many cases, youll find that air is trapped in the highest place it can go...above the level of the radiator cap or overflow bottle. This can be a portion of the upper rad. hose, a heater hose, or a coolant line running thru various parts of the intake/throttle body area. What I do after topping up the system, is let the engine warm to normal op. temp./ W radiator cap still off. When upper hose becomes hot, you know thermostat is open. Now, if a bleeding device is not present, back off a hose clamp at the highest point in the system. Take a pair of pliers and twist the hose just enough to break the seal. You should see steam or drops escaping from your "breach". Once the steam stops and becomes all coolant, you have likely bled all air from the system. Top up radiator and coolant bottle to proper mark and close the system. (tighten your hose clamp) Check for leaks. Keep an eye on your system for a day or two, to insure no leaks are present.

Caution! As with any task that involves opening the cooling system...Coolant and water can become very hot. Hot water and steam can be very dangerous. If you dont feel qualified to perform this task, let a mechanic do it!

If the "Heater In Hose" gets hot, and the "Heater Out Hose" does not get hot, than either the Control Valve is sticking closed, or your heater core is plugged up with ****!

Have you used "Barrs Leak" or a simular product for a radiator leak? That will sometimes clog the heater core.

I have a 1993 Grand Cherokee, which "Normally" throws very hot air out of the heater, but lately sometimes it only throws warm air, till I make my first stop, than it gets hot.....all because the heat control valve is hanging up.

Low water in the radiator will also cause a heater to not work.....if the water level is too low to circulate to the heater.

Heater not blowing hot air


Sounds as if you have a temp actuator gone bad & stuck on the ac side. If not you can make sure your heater core isn't stopped up. Take the hoses off at firewall going to heater core and shoot water in each side with a water hose nozzle till clear water comes through it. Sometimes flushing a radiator system isn't good enough.

Heater issue


This sounds like a thermostat that is fully open all the time. It allows the engine coolant to warm when sitting still (no air being forced thru the radiator), but even that goes away when moving, since the air through the radiator will remove that heat from the coolant. Does you van have a temp gauge? Is so, at full operating temp. most vehicles have coolant temps of 180-195 degrees F, depending on the thermostat installed. Anything less indicates a thermostat that is starting to malfunction.

Troubleshooting a/c


Checking the pressure with the system not working won't tell you anything. A system with just a half pound of freon will read outside air temp on both gauges with the compressor off.
I guess my first few questions would be - - is the compressor running at idle, what are the gauge readings at idle, and is the cooling fan running at idle ?
The two gauge readings at idle with the compressor running should be 30-45 low and 200-250 high.

When my 2006 elantra is idle the hot air blowing out turns cold. Is this a common issue? What is the solution?


These cars use a thermostat that has a little check ball in it to let hot water past the thermostat to warm the interior even if the thermostat is not opened up yet. The ball could be sticking. Another possibility is that the fins on the water pump have corroded away, but your car isnt that old for that to have happened( I would hope) unless you have had your coolant replaced and whoever replaced it used city water instead of distilled water. Some water is acidic and could corrode internal parts. Alway use distilled water in a cooling system along with antifreeze.
Or you may have a loose water pump belt and at idle it is slipping.

My 1997 318I BMW temp indicator would read normal after sittingand idling for approximately 20mins, and there was heat, after riding the guage would read cold and the air would be warm..it would never read...


Had a simular problem with a 318 myself, they are notorious to get air locked after replacing the thermostat, should have a blead screw on the main water hose, start the car and get up to temp then slowly undo the screw until water starts seeping, should be bubbly, persist with topping up the water until water runs clear, do not drive the car untill air lock is clear or it could blow the head gasket£££££
and or radiator.

My 2004 Chrysler Sebring blows our cool air only when idling AND driving in town. On the interstate it blows out hot air. Sometimes it will blow out warm air in town if I'm going 35 or 40 mph. Its a tad...


When the engine temp looks normal on the gauge but you get no heat inside unless your keeping the RPMs up by driving it,It usually means the fluid in the radiator is very low.wait until it is cooled completely and remove the radiator cap and fill completely,Check resovour and fill to correct level,
