Question about 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible
Did you get an extended warranty on this car? If so that will make this repair free, otherwise the sensor in question needs to be replaced (this is a somewhat common problem even in the newer models), and then it needs to be reset by a dealer. So either way you have to go to a dealer since only a dealer can reset it. A pain but hopefully you have a warranty still on it or the dealer will replace it cheaply. Let me know how this turns out.
