SOURCE: brake lock-up

I suspect that you have front disc and rear drum brakes. You did not say which of your brakes are locking up. I suggest that if your front brakes are locking {skid} that means your rear brakes are not engaging. If your rear brakes are locking {skid} then I suggest you have problems with park brake or brake fluid leaking onto the rear shoes.
More info would help me help you. I will check back soon.

SOURCE: I have a 2003 chevy pick up and the electric

If the brake conrol iis activating by manually moving the slide lever but not with the depression of the pedel the problem is no brake signal you need to have power to the red wire coming into the brake control. One of the two white wires coming from the brake switch is switched power and you could wire in there. A test light and time will fix your problem.

SOURCE: Have prodigy trailer brake control Have

When installing the trailer break controller, 4 things must be considered carefully and objectively . 1.Safety regarding the mounting of the controller with respect to the drivers ability to control the vehicle without any hindrance whatsoever . 2.The dirvers ease of access (and control) of the coltroller while actually driving.....not sitting in the driveway....and lastly.... 3. The expected and assured 100% faith in the controllers ability (by the driver) to function without failure (no exceptions allowed) AND as designed to function (not ***-u-med), by properly mounting the unit and performing the correct electrical aspects of the installation without "shortcutting or jerry rigging" (no exceptions allowed)
4. The trailer brakes themselves. Ie. Shoes, drums, actuators, mechanical and electrical components etc. And last.....but too often forgotten....axle bearings maintenance / checkups / and tires condition and proper air pressure attained with a reliable tire guage....Did I mention checking the trailer lights functions ??? Good Luck...Happy Safe Motoring..

Excursion limited edition. Brake lights stay on.

Check that the pedal height isn't sagging due to low brake fluid level. Also check for adjustment of the brake light switch or the BPP (Brake Pedal Position) switch.

Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Disconnect brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connector.

  5. Remove push rod spacer.
  6. Remove push rod bushing.

  1. Install push rod bushing.
  2. Install push rod spacer.
  3. Install switch to brake master cylinder push rod.

How to remove a front brake hose for 1985 chevy 1/2 ton truck

You will find the clip for the front brake hose inside the frame.
Remove it and pull the hose out to remove it from the steel brake line.
The other end will have 2 gaskets at the caliper end....one above and below the hose connection.
Once the new hose has been installed.....open the bleeder on the caliper and remove all air as fluid flows into the new parts.
Only new fresh brake fluid should be added to the master cylinder to replace lost fluid.
Do not expose brake fluid to air for long periods.....it will absorb moisture.
You may have to bleed the other front caliper to restore a firm brake pedal.
After your repair hold the brake pedal down for a few minutes...it should not drop down.....and also inspect for leaks before moving the vehicle.

WHEN DRIVING MY 1985 CHEVY C10 THE FRONT BRAKES FREEZE UP AND CAUSES THE TRUCK TO PULL IN A STRAIN. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS WHEN I DRIVE IT AFTER IT HAS SIT UP FOR ABOUT A WEEK. I PUT NEW CALIPERS ON AND NEW...

either one of these will cause this problem ,the front flexible pipes have collapsed inside causing the brakes to bind ,acting as one way valves or the master cylinder /servo push rod is over adjusted

1985 c10 305 engine .stops running after a few miles .starts back after it cools down over night.

sounds like either the coil or ignition module is getting hot and creating a high resistance condition in which voltage cannot push through the resistance. Once cools down, normal resistance is obtained and they will work properly. Temperature and resistance are linked... Temp. increases so does resistance.

No brake pedal

first check your brake fluid. It may be low. Having low fluid could have also led to getting air in the brake line. You may need to have your brakes bled. Its not that expensive probably 50-60 bucks at your local garage.

1985 Chevy 1/2 ton

If you have no dash lites< I would suggest checking either of the following as thse are the most common problems 1) chec your fuses 2) test the headlite switch, as for the brake lites I would again check the fuses and then move on to the brake lite switch and see if there is power going into the switch and coming out of the switch with the brake pedal depressed, if not it's the switch if there is power trace the wire back to the brake lites checking all connections in between for power. Finally test the lite pig tail ( socket ). Good luck and rember to rate all the solutions that you get on FixYa, thanx
