Doesn't have any vacuum hose's , all electronic ! The PCM - the powertrain control module (computer ) controls it . Is the check engine light lit ? 1-2 shift solenoid problem or some internal componet worn !

2002 ford f150 four wheel drive front hubs not going into fourwheel drive

Is the system ESOF ( Electronic Shift On the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift On the Fly ) ?

If you have already tested to find the front drive shaft locks into place, and the front axle is the cause, looks to the front vacuum disconnect shift motor.
Item #10 in the parts diagram below :

Close up of it ( this is a picture from another person's bracket that broke ) :
sscullys_51.jpg

Chances are the vacuum lines to the vacuum disconnect motor are cracked, the vacuum solenoids are not working correctly, or the vacuum to the solenoids is having an issue ( the reservoir ) :
Vacuum diagram for the shift motor
sscullys_52.jpg

The pink line is vacuum for 2WD operation ( unlocks the axle ) the light blue vacuum line is for 4WD operation ( locks the axle ).

You can test right at the vacuum disconnect motor with a vacuum gauge with the motor running. Unplug the shift motor, and check for vacuum right at the motor.

Could be the shift motor has a damaged diaphragm and not holding vacuum or has water in it ( saw that 1 time ).

Start with checking for vacuum. Also check the fuses for the vacuum solenoids, the power is always at the solenoid, ground is switched on and off by the GEM ( Generic Electronics Module ) to operate them

Had trouble shifting from first to second, would shift if i let off accelerator, service engine light was on, replaced neutral safety switch, service engine light went away, but still having trouble...

Not sure what model you have, but if there is a vacuum line going to the tranny make sure it isn't leaking. That is the usual cause of late shifting. If the tranny has a vacuum modulator valve, consider replacing.

Transmission shift Engine has to be 2000 RPM for the Transmission to shift up you can let up it will change gears. Shifts fine hesitates very slight from direct to OD. Is 2000 RPM Normal

Check for vacuum leaks--especially along vacuum hose that goes to transmission or other hoses that connect near the port that the transmission vacuum line connects at the engine intake manifold. Please reply if you have more questions.

Front hubs dont lock when put in 4x4

Probably a vacuum leak. Tranny has to be in Neutral to shift into 4 low, but should be able to shift into 4 high in any gear. The auto locking hubs work off of a vacuum, if there's a leak in the line, they won't engage. If the 4x4 light is on, but the wheels aren't pulling, that's most likely the problem.

No Power

Check for restricted exhaust. Hook a vacuum/pressure gauge into hose going to DPFE sensor. You should read 1 PSI or less at idle and 3-4 psi at wide open throttle, anything more than this is a restriction which would most likely be a stopped up catalytic convertor.
