I have a 1997 F-250 HD. Driver door latch cable is broken at the handle end. I have a replacement cable, but need help figuring out how to remove the broken cable without breaking the plastic rod...

Door Handle/Latch Assembly NOTE: Due to the conversion from single 90-degree rod end shape to double 90-degree rod end shape, it may be necessary to remove more parts than the instructions indicate. This action will allow more maneuverability of the rod and ease the removal process.
Handle, Outside Door, Front Removal
  1. Remove the front door trim panel (23942) and front door trim shield (237A04) from the front door (20124). Refer to Section 01-05 .
  1. Disconnect the front door latch actuating rod (22152) from the handle link connector.
  1. Remove one nut and screw.
  1. Remove handle and pads from door.
Some rods are double 90 degree rods, they require the handle or lach to be free when the rod is attached.
Some have plastic clips that slide onto the rod. they pop off sideways.

How do you fix the door handel when it wont open from the ouside

the outer handle is connected to the lock with a steel rod. If the outer handle has broken or the clip that holds the rod onto that handle has broken, then thats what you need to replace. You will need to remove the inside door trim to access the locks and rods. Remove the door trim as best you can if you are unable to open the door at all and reach into the door to access the inner door lock rod. Pulling or pushing the rod should allow you to open the door and remove the trim completely.
If there is no obvious damage to the outer door lock, check where the outer door handle rod connects to the lock itself as the clips holding the rods in place can fail. If the clips have failed, replace them with new clips from the vehicle manufacturer..

How to fix a door handle on a 1986 pontiac grand prix

Remove the inside door trim from the door
remove the weather protection from the inner door
now look up inside the door and you should see a
small rod which is held onto the door handle with a
plastic fastener, pry the plastic fastener from the rod, it
just clips onto the rod so you only have to pry it from
the end of the clip to release it
slide the rod from the door handle, also remove any
other rods or cable that go to the handle
Use a thin extension arm with a socket to suit the nuts
or bolts that hold the handle in place, there should be a
few small holes directly behind the handle on the inner
slide the socket extension arm with socket attached
through the holes and remove the nut or bolt holding
the handle in place
The instructions I am giving you may not be exact but it
should not be too much different if it is different at all.

How does the door linkage work i.e a diagram

There are plastic connectors that attach to the rod and attach to the latch. The rod usually hooks into the inside latch, the rod may be held to the door by some clips. Then the rod connects to the latch with a plastic retainer clip.

Trying to adjust outer door handle rod. how to

Once you remove the door panel, you will see the linkage and rods. The rods are connected with these little "swing away" plastic fasteners. Basically, these fasteners have a hole on one end and a sort of channel which snaps onto the connecting rods. To remove them you just unsnap them from the connecting rods. I'm enclosing 2 pictures of typical awing away connectors. In the pictures, it's the square end which needs to be unsnapped. Hope this helps, if you need any further clarification, just post a comment.

Take the interior door trim panel off and check the rods and connectors (plastic) connecting at the inside handle to this rod; and then the rod and connector to the door mechanism. Sometimes these plastic connectors become disconnected, but most of the time they break. The L portion of the rod goes through the hole of the connector. There is a pivoting "U" arm clip that clips over and onto the rod.

When i try to unlock my car door with a key nothing happens, it'll turn but it doesn't unlock. why is that

There is a good possibilty that the key tumbler mechanism "rod" has become disconnected to the door control mechanism. These rod connections are plastic and will break. Also if someone is trying to unlock the door while someone is trying to open the door either from the inside or outside; this could cause this link to break. If someone tried to "jimmy" the lock using a slim-jim they could have caused a disconnection or breakage.
The last of my theories is the locking tumbler could have become loose because of a tumbler spring lock clip that may be broke or malfunctioning. This keeps the tumbler in place while turning the key. If the key continues to turn more than it should or is very loose this could be the problem. However this is rare.
You will have to take the inner door panel off to gain access. Check visually to see if this rod from the key tumbler to the door mechanism is loose on top where it is connected to the key tumbler OR on the bottom of the rod where the rod connects with the door control mechanism.
The "L" part of the rod pushes into the hole of the plastic clip and normally there is an rotating arm clip lock that flips over onto the rod and locks onto the rod, holding the rod in place. If the clip has broken it should be replaced (available to auto part stores).
Let me know if this helped or in you have additional information or questions. Feel free to contact me on!

1995 Toyota Camry drivers side door latch unhooked

On the metal rod that runs vertically up to the door handle, there should be a large yellow clip that holds the rod onto the handle. These break with regularity, look at the bottom of the inside of the door shell to see if it indeed has broken & fallen down.
