Rear brakes on a 2006 Camry offer 2 configurations. I have the one with a single bolt on the bottom and a pin on the top. Please help me understand how to get this off ?


you are probably trying to get the callipers of by not removing the correct bolts
calliper mount bolts are 2 studs that hold the calliper frame onto the axle and by undoing these bolts the calliper assembly can be lifted off the rotor within the length of the brake hose

Neil Williams8 minutes ago I was told to tighten the front caliper bolts to 26 ft. lb. and the bracket to 133 ft. lb.194,000 miles on odometer. Is this correct?


I would go with the Utube advice as the bolts in use will probably shear off at 133 ft/lbs
40 ft/lbs for the calliper bolts and 70 ft/lbs is more in the region of being correct
follow the specifications in the workshop manual or get advice from a specialist brake shop as to the required tension b for the bolts

Now I've changed rubber brake hose and hard line to the T on rear axle, bled system and left rear brake still drags. All new pads and rotors all around and new calipers in rear. And great pedal.


the callipers actually slide on two pins that are part of the mount to the axle. this sliding action allows the callipers to centralize over the rotor disc
if you are experiencing a dragging brake then remove the pads and see if you can slide the calliper on those pins
if not you will have to remove the pins and clean the rust and gunk out of the holes in the calliper
they do rust up and seize which gives dragging brakes especially after fitting new pads.

How to replace rear brake pads and rotors?


Hi Danny jack up the car and use axel stands or blocks for safety remove wheels and open the calliper s. if the park brake cable is attached to the back of the calliper you will need a brake wind back tool. If not the pistons on the calliper should push back to make room for the new pads. Next remove the calliper brackets and then the rotors and reassemble in reverse order. Before you let the car back down pump the brake until its hard then turn the wheel by hand to see that it is free. After a road test jack it up again and make sure the wheels are still free. What tool removes the calipers to change the brake pads?


You will need a 17MM Socket Or a 15MM socket depending on wheel size
Behind the calliper locate the two bolts, Not the bolts on the case around calliper , But on the calliper it'self then remove bolts and remove calliper replace pads, Put the bolts back tighten, And then brake pad change is complete.

Change break pads


for front pads jack and support car remove wheels remove bolts holding calliper [2]remove spring clip pull calliper off remove pads clean housing fit outer pad slowley push calliper piston in using large grips fit inner pad to piston refitcalliper fit bolts refit spring clip can be awkward pump brake pedal until firm check fluid level rear ones are the same but special tool needed to wind calliper pistons back in note make sure brake discs are in good condition first

Rear brake disc needs replacing


with car on stands use punch to remove pad retaining pins pull out pads can be tight remove 2 calliper retaining bolts move calliper away from disc remove disc retaining bolts remove disc check hand brake shoes and clean look for adjuster between shoes if it has one back it of some models just have hand brake cabel adjustment clean and fit new disc secure adjust hand brake shoes using screw driver through wheel bolt hole clean refit calliper slowley push back calliper pistons fit new pads refit retaining pins do other side pump up brake pedal check and adjust handbrake if neededcheck brake fluid level

awkward with diff carrier in place but possible need car jacked up high as you can remove lower plate on carrier for better acces remove hand brake cable from callipers release lock tab remove the mounting bolts and the fork feed calliper round brake disc towards rear of carrier on bench note correct fitted position of pads remove nuts holding each pad clean mounting faces well if this not done new pd can be damaged fit and secure new pads unwind adjuster bolt operate calliper lever to check adjuster working should hear it click if ok refit io car guide in poition locate in position a taper gound on to bolt helps as easy to miss hole in calliper when happy it correct gently remove bolts fit fork and tab secure bolts engage fork lugs in calliper arms operate calliper lever by hand till freeplay is taken up pads now in correct position do other side refit cable and lower plate good luck

How to change back brakes? I can't get the brake cylinder to go in.


Do you mean back brake pads or the back brake callipers?
To change pads you need to use a rear brake pads changing tool to screw in the calliper piston or if you are experienced enough you could screw in the calliper with a two mm thick piece of metal sheeting that fits into the grove of the piston.
If you need to replace the whole calliper remove the hand brake cable first and clamp the flexible brake hose remove brake hose, remove the callier with cylinder and then remove the calliper holder. fit new holder pads and locks and the calliper with the piston and the brake hose and the hand brake cable. Bleed the brakes. Mike
