If the thermostat is broken and always open, you can get a "engine cold too long" fault code.

My 97, 5.2 runs 200 without AC, if I turn on AC, it goes to 220. Replaced clutch fan, thermostat, water pump, and new cap. Backflushed block and radiator. No results. Why so hot? Only 92K on unit.

dodges run like that. if your worried put a 180 degree thermostat in. maybe even a 160 . wont hurt engine or fuel mileage . my 99 dodge ram 1500 sport runs fine with 160 degree one. hope it helped , good luck

My check engine light came on and it started really rough

It is pretty much impossible to tell you what is going on with your Dodge Ram without FIRST performing some diagnostic tests. To help you to understand this, please review the following article:

The temperature gauge on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 is not working. The temperature sensor and the thermostat have been replaced.

Check the gauge by holding in the trip odometer reset button and turn key to run, hold button for 10 seconds this will iniate a diagnostics on all the gauges, and lights if gauge doesn't move during this test replace gauge,if it does move then check the wires on the plug at the engine coolant temp sensor (ects) you can check the sensor by using a ohms meter by unpplugging it and check ohm's or resistance when cold and then start engine as the engine warms up the ohm's reading should gradually lower as the sensor is a thermister and as it warms up the resistance will drop.

well if truck running hot change thermostat

if it is doent seam to run hot go to salvage yard and remove sensor and place in pocket one home put replacemnt sensor in truck and reset computer it might be a computer samety feature but likely the heat sensor problem is tied to your heat

2001 Dodge Ram 1500, the heater is blowing cold air, however, the slower you go the warmer it gets and vice versa.

Is the engine coolant temp also low (if you have a gauge)? Your symptoms suggest the engine coolant thermostat is missing or stuck open. With unrestricted coolant flow through the radiator higher speeds mean more airflow and cooler coolant temps.

Replacing the thermostat is a simple, inexpensive fix. Hope that's your problem.

Have a 2001 dodge ram 5.9/v8 1500. cranks but wont start. if i leave the battery disconnected for a bout 15-30 mins it starts up. but then dies after i let it idle

What have you done for diagnostics so far? Is the engine light on? Did the ECM store any codes? Besides the current symptoms, was there anything else you can add to this issue ( like, did it happen out of nowhere, happens when its cold, hot, wet). I need more info, several things can cause a no start. But in your discription it sounds like a vacuum leak, I.A.C.valve, TPS sensor, or maybe map or maf sensor. But it is crazy to go further until you can run some diagnostic test and narrow down, the cause of your problem. I can say that it sounds like it is related to the ECM and when you disconnect the battery, it is putting the ECM into default, and as the vehical is running it senses the fault and causes the engine to die. Try to provide some engine codes if possible.

The heater is blowing cold but the engine temperature reads high

I would first check to see if both heater hoses are hot to the heater.
if 1 is hot and 1 is cold the heater control valve is closed or the heater core is plugged.

Check engine light on and off

have a tune up done on your vehicle. it will need plugs wires. also you may want to take your vehicle up to a auto parts store and have them connect there diagnostic machine to it and see if it pulls any codes.
