Your headlight switch is overheating from high resistance. if you dont replace it, it could get hot enough to catch fire. have it replaced.

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4L twin cam V4- the car completley shut down while I was driving when we got to looking all we found was both ignition fuses were blown so we replaced them and the car...

There are several different things that could be going on. First, check your battery cables. If they are loose or corroded pretty bad it can cause an amperage issue. Bad connections can cause all types of problems. Try this first and if that doesn't work, check your ignition switch (lock cylinder, tumbler) bad wire or faulty part can cause amp jumps as well which is can blow fuses also.

Neon headlights not working

You will need to inspect some of the related components. I would start with the head-light fuse and relay. Check that both go in with firm pressure. While you have the fuse and relay out. Inspect them. Check that they are free of corrosion and signs of overheating. If they check out then inspect the headlight switch and the high beam switch. I don't know what year this car is but age could be a factor. The head light or high beam switch cool be loose or worn out. Check as much wiring as you can. Look for spots/areas that are bulging (corrosion), over-heated, or frayed. I hope that helps. If you have any other question be feel free. The more information you can provide, the better.

Use a bottle of yellow HEET dry gas to remove any moisture problem in the fuel.

Clean / replace air filter.
Check ATF at level ground. Top off ATF to MAX level.

Headlights shut off while driving at night

Electrical fault, either the wires are grounding out somewhere along the line or there's a bad connection at the headlight. Check behind your headlight where the harness connects to the bulb. There is likely a bad connection there, if you pull the games off you'll likely see some blackened spot on one of the connections. An easy fix is some aluminum around the spade connector of the bulb to insure a complete connection. Recommend you take the car to have the harness and or bulbs replaced though as the aluminum can be a very temporary fix.

Headlight problems; I have a 1997 yukon with 100 watt headlihts in it. after driving for awhile they go out, but if I turn them off (like I am letting them cool down) then they will work again for awhile.

your wattage is to high[higher amps=more heat ] and your probably overheating the relay or switch causing it to open --you basically doubled the wattage [55 watts] on the system either put in heavier wiring [beef up the elect system],or put back the normal bulbs

Cruise turns off when we roll down the windows

Strange electrical problems can sometimes be attributed to a bad ignition switch. The battery should also be load tested, especially if it is more than 4 - 5 years old.

My 91' 5th after the headlights are on for awhile they shut off. They will come back on after "resting" . How do I change the dimmer switch

Its probably the circuit breaker inside the headlight switch.
The dimmer switch is part of the turn signal switch.
